Done!! Just need to tweek it 😜 bass is better near the wall It sounds a bit bright tho but I'll get some tiles and I think mission speakers can be a bit bright. speakers are shooting straight down the room 7ft apart I'm sat 7ft away it sounds ok for now I'd toe those in a bit.

I'd move them in a bit more from the walls. If it's already a bit bright toeing them in might be brighter still.
I can't find any measurements for these speakers which is a pity.
Looks like it's all starting to come together though.

Found the manual it says to start they should be 1.8m apart and 300mm From the rear wall and 500mm from the side so they need bringing closer together maybe I'll try that tomorrow

Looks like a fantastic space. I agree that you should move the speakers away from the side walls slightly. They will sound bright as you will get strong 1st reflections off the sidewalls and the sloping ceilings. I would recommend hanging a thick shaggy rug on the wall behind the speakers and on both side walls (see blue rectangles). A shaggy rug will absorb a fair bit of excess high frequency and higher mids. Even a duvet cover with a duvet, or a doubled up blanket or throw. Any thick heavy fabrics.

Remiss if me not to laud the effort taken to get a listening space up and running.
The room looks to have bags of potential.
Well done !

I've got a few spare duvets so I'll have a play tomorrow shame I have to cover up my perfect painting !! I was looking at the hex tiles from Amazon for the sides then I might make my own frame for the rear and get my mate to paint something on it

Ah....now we're looking like progress is being made. Good job. Can I ask why you are using that pair of speakers in particular?

Looking great.
Glad the absorption (duvets etc.) makes a difference. Looking forward to seeing the tiles too.

Ah, ok. I was a bit behind on the thread and was wondering if this was going to be a cinema style install. Just stereo?

With regard to the amp, if you can set aside £1500 approx, I'd highly recommend a used Belles Aria Integrated. Excellent, regarded amp, that boogies and does music.

Just out of interest what speakers and amp would you recommend for this space on a budget and also if you had a money tree ? How long is the room? Recommending kit is so hard, as people like so many different things - it's so subjective. Budget plays a big part. As does your music tastes and sound preferences - some like it smooth, some like is hard, some like BASS to pin you to the wall.... I think you get the speakers that work for the room first as that is the most (IMHO) thing to get right. I have heard plenty of amazing systems with poor speakers for the room and the system is completely wasted. Conversely, even a modest system can sound good if the speaker/room combo works. I can't advise on speakers as I'm biased and have a vested interest 😂. I've used kit/DIY speakers for 25 years and am yet to be convinced otherwise where VFM and performance are concerned!

I should have given an amount for the budget option let's say £500 for amp and speakers

Money no object then the Kii3 www.wintersaudio.co.uk/kii-threeFor £500 I'd keep the speakers and get a small subwoofer, crossover at around 100hz with high pass digital filter so bass signal mostly handled by the sub and doesn't go to the speakers. That would be a big upgrade, you'd get deeper bass and cleaner mids.

Been great to see how your room has transformed over these past few days. Looking back to the first picture and now what you have is brilliant. Looking back through the thread what great team work from members, all working together to make a system sound the best it can in the room. Just brilliant.

Pleased to see the room coming along, somehow the speakers look 'better' positioned where you have them now. As for upgrading, forget about it and enjoy what you have. In another year when you have saved up a bit and feel like a change ask again. It will give you time to get accustomed to the sound of your kit and room and any upgrades will be more appreciated.

I agree with Dave (antonio). There's no rush to change what you've got. Get the current setup finished and looking and sounding good with some judicious speaker positioning, and furnishing and decoration choices. Then lean back in that cumfy chair, play some choons and enjoy a job well done.

This looks like sound advice, time to enjoy the music! Also agree with Macca, a small sub may be the most cost effective upgrade next. I happen to have one doing nothing right now (BK XLS 200DF) which you are welcome to borrow for a few months, so you have time to experiment. I live in Chorley, which is only about 30 miles from you. The only thing you might need is a solid slab of something to put it on as it is downward firing. To avoid room boom, and the folk downstairs bangin' on the ceiling wit'long brush

I was thinking of adding a sub🤔 I have one downstairs in the lounge as part of my home theatre system it's an old tannoy SFX 5.1 system with a Yamaha AV I bought as a deal from richer sounds years ago but still in good order and used every day so I'll try that (then I'll probably want to buy one lol !!) . Many thanks for the offer tho Ste that's a 300 quid sub you would be trusting me with !!! Think I've said it before but many thanks to all of you for all the help and advice it's been a steep learning curve and I've enjoyed every minute I've still got some tweeks to add like cable and some paving slabs but for a cheap as chips set up it sounds better than I had expected !!! I've never listened to an expensive quality set up so I can't compare but after playing a few toons from an audiophile playlist on Spotify I'm blown away

As far is kit upgrades go, apart from your earlier comment re buying a wiim mini, I would stick with what you have for a while as suggested. In the meantime if you feel you really really must upgrade something then an upgrade from Spotify to a higher SQ service like Qobuz would be the way to go. It's only a couple of ££s, extra a month over your Spotify subscription but the lift in SQ would be well worth it.

Personally I think Spotify and Qobuz/Tidal etc sound different rather than better or worse.
For me the major difference is tonality with Tidal being the brightest, Qobuz in the middle, and Spotify least bright.
If your system is a bit bright already, then switching from Spotify might just make it worse.
As you say, take the 1 month free trial and see.

They're all pretty much the same, Van Damme is as good as any. Instead of a Y lead I'd get a £20 Chifi matchbox DAC and feed it via the optical out from the Wiim.
