Found it - ebay.
Open to offers so the BIN is top dollar. Might keep an eye on that. Pain in the arse getting it from Devon though.

Crown I'm currently using in the main stereo is the original version of this (no front panel and you basically stand it on its front with the fins in the air) - kenrockwell.com/audio/crown/d-150a-series-ii.htmI also have D-60's in the workroom system and a DC300A is on the bucket list.

Decades ago I used to fancy the DC300A. I'll make do with me Yam 2200 and Audioromys

Ah! My HH is basically 2/3 of a dc300. It’s pretty good in my opinion but it is old now and probably needs some TLC

I believe the HH 500? was a tweaked DC300A circuit. I also have here a VX300 MOSFET amp which was used almost to death in a TV company editing suite. Gain attenuators (Noble) are marginal but once set, the 'sound' isn't bad, although the brick-wall bass filter is audible I believe.

It also has a smaller power supply (just the 1KV toroid and 2 large caps, the Crown uses an R or C core and bigger caps). Its much smaller than the Crown and it looks nice when it's lit up. I don't know about a bass filter, it doesn't sound like it has one and I use a sub with my Cheviots.

Sorry, the later VX range are unrelated MOSFET amps. The VX300 is a 2U high full width box, weighs a ton and carries printed response and basic distortion info on the top cover.

Ollie, this is a KRELL we're talking about, with approaching twenty electrolytics a channel, highish bias current amps right from the input (not single ended like yours). Honestly, if you repair one board and replace a couple of bits, in just a few minutes, these replacement parts should have bedded in and I can assure you, unless there's an issue elsewhere, you wouldn't know the thing would have been repaired audibly, or almost certainly on a test bench. I doubt your amp would have needed bloody AN foo-caps either. A set of nice 105 degree Panasonics would probably have done just as well if not better (I've never been an AN fan, sorry) I bet one of the Pro crown power amps with linear supplies rather than switching ones (they're well under five hundred quid) would probably give a good sound to high fidelity standards Slightly higher price - some of the Hypex amps are setting incredible standards at a thirds of the also outstanding Benchmark power amp - I say this as you want a 'professional sound quality' power amp. In the meantime, I could let my late issue (different case finish) LK280/SPARK go for very little dosh - and this one totally surprised me how good it was..... I stuck 105deg Panasonic in it first. Sounded horrible. Put the AN in and all was right with the world. Believe me, Dave, I could've done without spending £40 on 4 caps lol Macca, I may let my Krell go in favour of a smaller unit so don't dismay if you can't get yours fixed. I feel I may end up with a Hypex unit as I have an urge to build one or a neuro chrome unit. Could maybe factor in a deal on your JMLabs when/if the Tannoys have passed your acceptability tests. Just acquired a pair of NCore monoblocks. Still getting a handle on them, but my first thought was how disconcerting they were, most likely due to the vanishingly low distortion figures. They are growing on me. Will take them to NEBO, see what folks think.

LOL, what I mean is I was initially taken aback as they sounded very forward and in your face, but when you adjust you realise the lack of distortion is allowing fine details to come out of the mix. I also had another problem in my system which I’ve now resolved and this took the SQ up a few notches. I’ve a feeling these are exceptional amplifiers. Great bass too.

Ah, I see what you mean. Well, yes, that's certainly interesting.
Do they have that digital signature sound? Slight edginess or anything?

Those JBLs look really interesting. I'd be seriously thinking of importing those JBLs from Japan if I was in a position to do so. I reckon it could be done for £1500-1800 which looks like a good price. There's another pair in Germany for £3.5k!! Those Italian speakers are stunning to look at. I'm gonna stick with my plan of renovating the garage at the end of the garden (Albert Hall I think you called it lol) I have a plan almost together for that. It'll take time but planning costs nothing.

Just looked at the original ad on AoS, nice looking amps and not too large. Enjoy.

Those set up in your refurbished garage...end game mate. End game. 'And Alexander wept - for there were no more worlds to conquer.'

That would perfect..... If I had the cash. Seems Alexander will have to keep weeping for the time being

You mean it will be a while yet before he starts weeping.
I remember the first time I thought I had cracked it and it was a sense of loss. Like I would have to find something else to do. Then I heard Gordon's system with the Linkwitz speakers and realised I wasn't even remotely close to cracking it.
Then with the Krell/DCB1 and the JM Labs I pretty much had cracked it, except for stereo imaging which my room will always be a hinderance on (too narrow). That lasted about 2 months and then the Krell went on the blink.
