Black Tulip Pre-amp is here: it isn't Jerry's old one, as it turns out. Great looking bit of kit.

Is it the one I have recapped partially?

Yeah, different model to mine. Looks like the same model Jules had, he sold it a while back not sure to who.

Is it the one I have recapped partially? Yes it is. Bought it off of Ian. Bit of a cock-up on the AV front. What I assumed were analogue outputs on the back of the TV don't appear to be. RCA sockets yes but there doesn't appear to be any option to output through them. Resorted to RTFM but that's absolutely no help. remember when manuals had a picture of the unit with all the inputs and outputs labelled as to what they did? Not this one. 5 pages of idiotic safety crap (don't immerse the tv in a swimming pool, that sort of thing) and 2 pages about a 'magic remote' whatever the F#ck that is. There's an option to output to headphones which must be an analogue output but nowhere does it tell you what to connect the headphones to. So looks like I can't make this work unless I buy a separate DAC. Bollocks.

I've got some of them but no good. No 3.5mm jack output. The headphone output is something weird. I will have to get a cheap DAC, and then find somewhere to plug it in. I already have 3 six way distribution blocks daisy-chained and all sockets are in use. I was using the digital output previously with the XTZ amp as that has internal DAC but I wasn't happy with the sound quality. The gain isn't right. That's why I wanted to go analogue.

Ordered one, thanks Alan. Doesn't arrive until half-way through July though.

100s of those on Amazon for same sort of prices without having to wait that length of time.

Well I'm baffled by this thing. Can't get a peep out if it. Powers up okay but just nothing is going to the power amp. Tried all the outputs. Tried two different sources, tried both inputs. Even resorted to just pressing all the buttons at random. Absolutely nothing. Can't figure it out.

Like I say I tried all the buttons...
Now done a full trouble-shooting routine. Sound on right channel, nothing on the other. Swap over cables to the power amp, and the working channel swaps over. So the pre-amp is dead on left channel.

I don't get it. Previous owner delivered it to my house in person, it's not like it has been bashed about by couriers or anything.

Think I'll open it up and see if it's anything obvious. Of course it never is but I always live in hope.

What inputs are you using? Use one of the tape ones - and switch in mono.

Are you using the 2 output? And have you switched mono in?

Maybe I;ll mention it to him but it would have to be the weirdest pre-amp in the world if it isn't faulty. I can get it fixed as soon as stupid lockdown finishes. It's no big deal.
