can't fault that for the money One thing you can do to hide cables is attach a white or black sheet of stiff card to the back of the unit and run the cables behind that. Just make some holes in it for the cables to feed through, the holes will be hidden by the equipment being connected. Yip, was thinking about that, I'll see how it looks using the method I have in mind first.

Done, however now that I've seen the photos I can see that there are 3 shelves dented on the face I'm using as the front and that means there's at least another shelf with a dent on the rear 🙁 Never noticed until I edited the last photo I've added here, pain as I'll need to bloody dismantle everything to get all the shelves with a clean facing edge, I should have fully inspected it before adding the kit 😭 Always a danger sending heavy packages like this with only cardboard to protect it, I'm sure a layer of polystyrene might have prevented the damage. The courier certainly didn't like carrying it to my door as it's pretty heavy and the only way to carry it was by the plastic binding so I'm sure it had been dumped down a few times and where the binding was had ripped into the cardboard. Anyway, still think its a good buy at the price, I still have to dress the cables to hide them but they're not too bad. My wife hasn't seen it assembled yet but I think it looks better than what we had before. Before: After: PS: contemplating sending them an email showing the damage to see what they might do about it, I know it wasn't too expensive but I was hoping it would make it here in one piece, now wish I'd checked it properly before assembly. I did however take photos of the damaged packaging before opening so that might be useful.

Dents aside, it looks way better! Yeah, I think so too. To be honest other that the chipped bottom edge left side the other ones aren't too noticeable

That's a real shame about the dents, I thought the same regarding the packaging (sub-standard) but there wasn't a mark on mine so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Looks like it's doing a good job though. Do you think you'll exchange it?

Ok I know it's nothing major but I always feel that if no one complains then standards never improve and let's face it the packaging is inadequate for the weight of it. Don't get me wrong I haven't ranted at them I've simply asked them to look at the photos and they can decide what they want to do.

Yup I completely agree, they need to be told their packaging is sub-standard or indeed the courier they are using is not looking after the package as well as they should.

Looks to me like that box was wankered before they even packed it. That mould is what you get when they are flat packed somewhere damp for ages.

Maybe it is from that, although have to say where I work the storage areas never have any of that sort of crap on the floors. Bit of dirt and dust yes, but never oil or grime. That would get cleaned up right away. Likewise with the vehicles.

Well, it's still not built yet.
Just a thought, do you think it would make any difference having the stronger taller shelf higher up? Only because I think it's a shame the power amp is down at the bottom where it isn't seen ( valve glow 😉 )
I'm thinking of putting it directly below the TT shelf and moving the pre amp one shelf lower.

All the shelves look the same thickness to me? What does the power amp weigh?

I can't see why that would be an issue as long as all the bits line up (which they do). To be honest I've always put amps on the base shelf as they're usually the heaviest item and logically provide some extra stability from having the weight lower down in the unit. Probably doesn't really matter though. That'd look pretty cool with some valves in the middle on display.

The bottom shelf is reinforced and my power amp is 33kg and it needs to go on that one because of the height it needs for clearance, sorry I should have said that in my earlier post 😉 Edit : each shelf can take 75lb and the reinforced one takes up to 150lb

Yeah that's my thoughts too, mind you this rack is so stable you could even have the power amp on the top shelf with no issues.

might be a bit 'ocd' of me but I've always followed the hi-fi chain of command - source - pre-amp - power amp, with the power amp on the bottom. It would really bother me to have the components out of that order, or in reverse order. Irrational but there it is.
