As the end of the year is approaching, have you achieved your goals or projects you set out to do in 2021? If so, what are your plans for 2022?
Most of my 2021 activity was unplanned, and the last job is to fit some feet to the Audio-GD DI-2014. Nothing fancy, but I don’t like it being sat on the rack the way it is.
I think 2022 projects are going to be based on the digital side, but not sure if I will make any big changes. Maybe a few cables. Maybe a better DDC? I am pretty happy with it, until I pop the same vinyl album on…

my only goal was to get back to where I was before my Krell went on the blink, which, thanks to Alan, I have.
otherwise I have fewer goals than Leeds United.

I have just completed my last goal of 2021. The BB3 is happily sat on Isopuck minis, and the DI-2014 is sat on the feet I had stuck on the BB3.

Crikey, my goals for this year turned out to be more of an ongoing thing than I originally planned.
The Avalon, the BT2 and the BBu were all marked for completion this year, and apart from the BBu, we've hit the target.
The BBu should be complete by the end of the month, but in the meantime we managed to find a couple of legitimate and worthwhile mods to Angus's tonearm, which I collect on Monday. That was a huge bonus to what had been a mega busy year.
I didn't envisage the complete rewire of my system with PC-TRIPLE C, but again, worth every penny.
Mains cables and a distribution block were added over the last few weeks, with more equipment on the way.
One of the big improvements came in the form of Townsend seismic bars. What a fantastic product.
Oh, then there was the Ortofon Vienna! How could I forget that lol.....
My other goals of better speakers, piano removal and a decent digital sound have also been achieved. The addition of the Digibit Aria was a major instrument in that, but this year's big step in the digital was the Mutec. Wow......can't listen without it now.
So far, this year's HiFi spend is somewhere around £7k, but I made a lot of that back with some sales.
My goal for next year is to spend less 😳

You've done a lot this year.
Getting shot of that piano and getting those new speakers have to be the big ones though surely?

For me 2021 saw me pulling my hair out with problem after problem with my kit for the first 9 months. However all has come good as future plans (3-4 years away) have been realised early with the acquisition of a 12" OL Enterprise and a Koetsu RSP. I was also forced to change/upgrade my speakers, which has resulted in an amp change (Tubes to Class D) I've also made improvements to my digital chain changing from, Mk1 Jolida to a Black Ice DSD and added a DDC. With lots of repair bills (£1200) and my purchases this year I've ended blowing £12.3k. Ohh and add to this changing SCs (TQ Black ll to Chord Signature & Jumpers) and numerous valves to roll the Lector and Jolida.
2022. Hopefully sell my Icon Audio MB845SEs (if not already gone) a Koetsu Black and Very early (April 63) Garrard 401 so I can recoup some money. It would be nice if I could then actually keep hold of the money and have the system settle for a year, but not sure I'm that disciplined especially with the BBu tempting me.

You've done a lot this year. Getting shot of that piano and getting those new speakers have to be the big ones though surely? Oh yeah, no doubt about it! The Piano was singing in the room. I hadn't realized just how much resonant frequency was spewing out of it. When the gaffer and I were moving it, I spoke to her and the piano resonated audibly just at that volume level. Lord knows what it was doing to the music. The speakers ........ Looking at this logically, I literally upgraded everything after I got them. I wasn't in a rush prior, but they spurred all of that change. Good point, Macca. I hadn't quite attributed everything to the difference they made in the room. I think I also realsie (now, finally) that when you start in this hobby, you should plough as much into the speakers as possible.

And for me, that was Kef Coda 9, as I was a skint student at the time. Before that, I had a set of Jamo (C130 I think?) but a mate blew those for me. Edited to add I think they were Compact 120, which I was given free. The Coda 9 were the first speakers I bought, and I still have them in use today.

None really. I spent big years ago and have been happy with the results. My system probably sounds like shite compared to others, but I'M happy!
Still have an itch for 300b's, maybe a BBu, and then I'll see how I feel, maybe some vintage MM's.
Nothing really exciting.

Vintage MMs? What flavour are you thinking about? I went Japanese with Technics and AT.

Great thread. My goals this year were to get the digital side of my system somewhere near the analogue. It’s well on the way.. only held back by the laws of diminishing returns and a deep desire to see my pension fund rocket. Said the eternal optimist. So going forward I’d like to build on the massive improvements brought by the SOtM/Denafrips and Mutec. Which means the speakers. God knows why I didn’t focus on them to start with, but perhaps it was the easy modular nature of improving digital. I have an ancient pair of Technics SB M300’s. They sound great. But would something else be massively better? If only there was going to be a get together before too long to listen to some alternatives What…? Oh .. wait a minute.

Yes they would, and there is a cheap pair of Q acoustic Concept 500 on the Wam. A few dings but I reckon your head may fall off if you gave them a go.

Goals for the year? Last autumn I was thinking my speakers were the bottle neck I’d been struggling around for several years. Having always like something about Magnepans, I bought a pair of .7’s… and that week my amplifier started acting up and badly enough that I never even got the Magnepans out of the box while the amplifier went in to the shop… and stayed there.
By April I knew I needed a new amplifier and so built a Modulus 686… which led to converting my buffer preamp to all balanced… and remote controlled.
Then I hooked up the Maggie’s and found them not as clear and transparent as I expected and started fiddling a bit. Which led to new binding posts and a note to replace the tweeter resistor in the crossover… not done yet.
Mostly because of reading the threads in here about streamers, Mutec DDC, and DAC’s I started focusing there a bit to see if it showed promise, and I think it does… and with all the change this last year, I really needed to play them through speakers I knew well, so the Magnepan .7’s sit to one side and the Proac 1SC’s stay in position.
Whew!
For 2022: sort my streamer/player and probably get a Mutec MC-3+. Try to hold off from a new DAC for another year or so. Get the Maggie .7’s sorted and determine which speakers I’ll keep.

I think I also realsie (now, finally) that when you start in this hobby, you should plough as much into the speakers as possible. I've always been a speakers first type of audiodweeb. Over a decade ago I went to the extreme of punting over 90% of system cost into the speakers and I remain convinced that was the correct decision. As for goals and projects, I've never done that, never had any. Continue to enjoy the music, that's my goal!

I didn't have any plans for this year but ended up spending more than I expected but so far, all the changes have been good to my ears!
2022 - have a couple of Lenco L75's I plan to get sorted and maybe sold. New pre-amp, power amp (maybe). Arm re-wire, roll some tubes and hopefully listen to a lot of music.......and relax!!

Would love to nab a used pair of Spendor D7.2 somehow.
My D7's are the best speaker I've ever owned, just excellent. From all I've read, the revised D7.2 improves on the original, taking it from excellent to excellent plus - I hope/dream to own a pair

Won't be doing much with my systems, funds don't allow it, but having spoken to my brother, may well look into room acoustics for his system when I return to the uk.

Initially, I had zero plans for 2021 but instead I ended up upgrading speakers, cables, amplifier and phono stage. For 2022, the plan is to add a DAC and streamer to accompany my analog setup but most importantly a hell of a lot more records will be purchased.

One project I would like for 2022 is a new preamp. I am secretly hoping that the BT2 PCB becomes available as a DIY project (it may not be a secret now). If that does not happen, then I may set myself the challenge of getting through 2022 without changing any HiFi equipment. This was easy before I joined forums, as ignorance was bliss. However, like most hobbies there is always the temptation to try something else. I have 19 days left of the year, so what is the best PC88 to partner a Tesla ECC83 foil getter?

TBF, the PCB is only part of the story, the attenuator is equally as important. I learned a very valuable lesson from the DIY stint of the BB3 and probably won't venture down the DIY avenue with anything else.
