I was told repeatedly that one of these things is pretty much guaranteed to make an improvement to any DAC. At a price of £1029, I thought...."I bet they do🙄" After spending some time with my recent acquisition of the Digibit Aria and feeling it's now settled in well, I did plan on leaving a great sound alone. As always, the second I decide not to do anything else, a bit of kit turns up for sale that I just can't ignore. This time, it too the shape of a Mutech. As my birthday is round the corner I thought...why not 😉 Could be here tomorrow, but I'll be leaving it to warm up for a few days before making any decision on its influence. Anyone got one? Opinions welcome

if you search on-line you can find various tests of these devices. With some DACs they reduce jitter from way below audible to slightly further below audible. With others they make no difference. Test and a subjective review from HFN here www.mutec-net.com/downloads/manuals/MUTEC_MC-3plusUSB_-_HFN.pdfThe purpose of the device is to sync the clocks of multiple DACs in a recording studio, there's really no useful application for domestic replay. Goes without saying that the subjective review go into detail about them making the sound 'more vibrant' and the usual toss about 'soundstage' improvements. But then that's the case for pretty much anything that gets reviewed no matter how ridiculous it is, so sadly subjective reviews just cannot be taken seriously. The measurements clearly show it does nothing even remotely audible. I would say don't bother with it. Repeatedly.

Some DACs benefit greatly, some don't. As there isn't really any Info on this combo with the Soekris, it now seems like it was a great idea to buy it. It may be a case that i save other people the expense, or that it is deemed a must have. Guess we'll find out.

Fair play Oli, gotta dip a toe . . . or a foot, then find yourself drowning in a sea of potential snake oil bobbing for those hifi gems whilst trying to ignore the siren calls of Macca from the rocks of reality . . . . Bit of a tongue in cheek metaphor to be fair, but I do thank those of us for boldly going to find things out for themselves where science 'may' say otherwise. Very interested to hear your thoughts on this.

However, as you say..... sometimes the science doesn't hold all of the answers and for those occasions we need open minded operators. That's my job 😉 I'll do a full "balls out" analysis of what happens when I plug it in, and if its bullshit I will say so. You'd know anyway, as I'll sell it 🤣

In fact I find myself agreeing with Macca a worrying percentage of the time (as no doubt many others do!). What connections will you be using BTW? I've heard there are advantages of AES/EBU and BNC over coax/toslink etc?

That's really the only option as the Soekris hasn't got AES

I like all the flashing lights, I don't like that olde worlde typeface though, what were they thinking? Yeah, totally naff. However, there are more lights on it now as I have been having a play. Need to get hold of the manual later as the setup won't play certain albums and it appears to be link to the bitrate. Investigation required.
