Believe me or not I'm having my ears checked out to make sure I've a good idea of my audio spectrum, I'm sure I have some loss. Hopefully this may help in detailing what I might hear when this comes to Rexton's Manse. I was supposed to be having mine cleaned out on Tuesday (micro suction) but ended up at a job Interview instead. Got a big digital comparison session planned on Monday and wanted the ears doing.

Not sure when it'll be ready but he's on it now so I wont rush him. There was never a MK3 he's confirmed but the Mk2 as you know was quieter and better than the MK 1 I have here and which I'm enjoying. He'll be improving the MK2 I purchased, which is with him and bring it up to MK3 ( fitting some nice low noise resistors etc) Cant wait to spend some time with it, evaluate and report back here / get Andy Smangus - Electronumpty round for a good listen

Not totally true I took my Mk3 prototype to his house today, it may not have been a commercial product but I have it and Alan opened it up around 13:00 hrs. Gary

Ok, back to the Avalon.
There has been a sufficient development after some experimentation by Angus this week.
One of the areas that we were not happy with, was the influence the transformer was having on the PCB.
With some creative thinking, the solution appears to be a somewhat unusual (in as much as I've never seen it done) arrangement of using two transformers wired in such a way that they dramatically reduce each others radiated field.
This also means that by using two physically smaller transformers, we can get them a few cms further away from the PCB.
Bonus!
Another little bonus is the realisation of how good the Avalon's power supply is. I sent Angus a modified Walt Jung PCB that I'd been using in my spare BT2 for comparison and the measurements are unflinching.
Whilst the Chinese made WJ PCB may not be reference level, it's certainly been a popular choice for the DIY community, and is technically very good for multipurpose reasons.
Due to this find, Angus has also put some time into another possible modification that will put the power supplies performance another step further and also make it's footprint smaller.
Again, making things more compact and further from the all important signal PCB.
All of this means we're going to take a little more time before being ready to let this go out on loan, but knowing we can gain perhaps a little more SNR (Signal to Noise ratio) means it will be worth it.

FINISHED!!!!! I think lol Now with two dinky traffos. Angus has managed to effectively remove any interference caused by the transformers by using a particular wiring technique that cancels out the opposing magnetic field. Clever stuff, as one would expect. Listening now and I am very pleased with how it's sounding. Just the casework to finish off and then comes the hard bit......making them for people lol

Looks good. How will the Avalon compare to the BBu performance and price wise?

Looks good. How will the Avalon compare to the BBu performance and price wise? No idea on both accounts. The BBu could cost as much a few thousand to buy. I have no idea, but the parts cost is ridiculous. It's a bit of a luxury item and an assault on all the bullshit Alan and I have seen in the valve world. It has the potential for serious performance. Well know more about the cost of the Avalon towards the end of next week

If the BBu performs as you expect then you already have your 1st customer for one. Subject to audition and you building it in a black case that is.

You'll all be on a world cruise from the list of punters wanting one. I'm looking forward to pitting this against the Paradise.
