Looks like 2 very clean board layouts there. Yeah, well thought out by Craig (directed by Angus) That's why I insist on him doing the work.

The casework arrived today and its HEAVY DUTY 4mm thick lid and base. 10mm thick front panetll too. It's diminutive, but it's rock solid. Quick layout check and we're good to go!

That case does look proper. Looks a lot like the ones Luxman and Accuphase use.

Cheers Al. I can't wait to get it up and running. Seems that Toroidy don't want to send transformers to the UK since Brexit, so I have had to order another from elsewhere. One in the pic is for reference only.

looks good oli, so whats the plan when its done? get it out and about? Well, first off im gonna get some hours on it, as that will be very important to knowing that the measurements we have are stable, and also match between the two built units we will have. Making sure we have repeatable results is very important to us. Then, when Angus and i have sat down and correlated everything we have learned, and worked out the purchase price etc, we will contact a select few members from the forums we frequent. If they are interested in giving the phonostage a listen and providing feedback on the performance, we will send it down for a listen.

Avalon vs Paradise - The ultimate match made in heaven ? oh dear, coat time again........ Ha! Are you volunteering, Andrew? Yeah if you want. It would be very very interesting to see these two sitting side by side for comparison. All paradises (is that the correct plural ?) are different with some higher spec than others.

Never had or used an off-board phonostage Olster so add me to the list, and if I'm lucky enough, send it over with the cables and instructions of what goes where - lol and I'll happily evaluate and review it over the on-board on my Sansui Integrated and inform how good or otherwise the Candenza Black FGS sounds through it

I believe yours is top banana? I think it is. Simon worked his magic over it early last month and it sounds better than ever. I don't think I can do much else with mine. There are a couple of things which can be done but I'm not sure if they would yield any additional improvement.

Wow Robbie, not having an external phono stage! Without knowing how good the Sansui one is, I'm sure it's good, but my money would be on a decent separate stage bettering it, and the quality of your analogue set up I think deserves it. I had an older Sony ES amp, purchased because folk said how good the phono was, it was ok but soundly beaten by Jez's modded Cambridge. I certainly don't like recommending people go out and spend more, I'll be interested in your thoughts.

im sure john (lurch) could russle up a few people for some listening sessions with all 4 as well.

I have a Firebottle otp you can borrow if so, it's not getting used atm. If you really sweet talk me you might get a listen of the bb3 too 🙂

I know your paradise was recently fettled, but didn't know where you were at with it since we spoke last. The purchase of a BB3 has already lead the the sale of a Vida. I think it's on Hifi Wigwam somewhere, maybe on the Bigbottle owners thread? We'll nmake sure you get a listen 👍

That would be one hell of a first independent Phonostage to try 🤣 Straight in to a bigboy Phonostage there lol

Haha, well, there may be a change to that depending on performance, bit it will only be for the thicker stuff. There is a reason behind the gold plated wire though, even if it is a bit belt and braces.

Yeah, definitely something that's been in my thoughts for a while and having read so often what a good off board phonostage can do to elevate things further, I owe it to myself and my system to see what happens when the Cadenza Black-FGS is given an even better platform/stage to perform on. Angus has a Sansui Integrated that is very similar in construction to mine, dual mono etc and I've heard that with the off board phonostage he had at that time and it sounded very good indeed, very refined and much cleaner sounding than my set up, no hash. I do think I've a lot more to extract from my vinyl front end, courtesy of a good stand alone phonostage.
