Is the Siemens ecc83 as good as the TFK? I’m a bit worried that the valves on eBay might be fakes. How do I spot genuine TFK or Siemens valves? Thanks

Start by looking for the “diamond” on the base between the pins on TFK valves. Then this may help - link

If you do read joes-tubes and are swayed to the apparent merits of the 5751 'tube' for V2, it is NOT suitable for the BB3. The different characteristics do not give the correct RIAA equalisation, sorry folks. I very nearly recommended that one, but I will say, I was going to advise 'better ask the designer since it has a slightly lower output'

Should have also mentioned, I went for a GE JG 5751 black plate, even though Firebottle advised to take care, but could not resist at £40 when they all seem to go for £60 or £70, hoping I'll get my money back if it is not successful.

Because the gain is lower two other critical characteristics of the valve are different.

Has anybody found a guide to the PCC88 similar to the one I posted for the ECC83?

Just put a Sovtek ecc83/12ax7 LPS in V2 to try Giving it some time before making up my mind. Seems good on first impressions Would like to try a Siemens or TFK seems everyone agrees they are the best option Makes me want to to try them in my Valve amp too, that could get expensive 😱😀 Anyone sees Siemens or TFK for sale that look good, don’t be shy let me know. 👍👍👍👍

How does something like a JJ ECC803S compare to the TFK?

I also have a US Army Raytheon 12AX7 on the way. That should be enough valves to keep the BB3 working for a long time.

Nor me. It will either be good, ok or rubbish.

I wouldn't have minded picking up a Raytheon 12AX7, one of those that were made for organ tubes I read good reports on and not too expensive. One just didn't crop up at the right time and something was purchased instead.

I read that it was a good sounding US made valve, so the risk is low..

No, not buying any from the U.K. as there are plenty here in Europe. I think I already have three Télé ECC83s. Not sure I need a 4th.
