Ok so been playing the Siemens PCC88 for a while now and they have settled down. In terms of sound they are very detailed, crisp and clear. The channel separation is very good and I would rate them higher than the Berlin/Ulm Teles in this respect. A very neutral sound, obviously if you don't like neutral they may not be for you. I am getting little nuances through in the recordings that I have not heard before , this is especially true through my Neurochrome headphone amp into my Hifiman headphones which are more revealing than my speakers. Very nice valves. Ye good aren't they. Super detail and transparency.

This thread seems to have stalled. So let’s resurrect it. Received my BB3 this week.I’ve loaded it with 2 Siemens pcc88 and a Russian 6N2P-EV-OS, so I’m guessing I’ve made a good start. What else have you tried and what difference have they made to the sound quality? Discuss:

Sounds great to me but I have made a capacitor change and speaker change so other things are settling in lol.

The Tesla looks interesting I have ordered a Sovtek ecc83 LPS to try in the v2 position Yeah the Siemens are good the the BB3 is still settling in so probably best to experiment once it’s got a few hours on it. Would like to try a Siemens ecc83 to see what a full set sounds like.

Hey Ollie, remind me which valves you supply as standard. I know you told me already, but I looked back over our various messages and couldn’t find it. Cheers Dan

If you don’t want to pay the price for TFK PC88, what is the next best option? People seem to be taking the mickey with prices.
I have three TFK ECC83 (well, two real ones and an EI), but I am a little bit short on PCC88. I could do with another set.

There are some Siemens made Telefunken on Watford valves, which would cost £130 plus import. Other than that, Siemens Halske made loads of valves for other brands.

Are the EI PcC88 made with Telefunken machinery/parts? Nope. Not as far as I'm aware and also, they don't look close internally

Are the EI PcC88 made with Telefunken machinery/parts? I've tried a pair of these. They do a job but are not a patch on teles or siemens.

I have made a cheeky offer on a set of Siemens, and it has been accepted. I will keep an eye out for some Télés as well.

Well done Cagey, a cheaper offer never hurts, if refused you can always come back with one a little higher. A few weeks ago I tried it on ebay, made an offer for two of his valves but he refused, ended up buying one of them for the asking price, which was more than fair, and told him he drove a hard bargain.

If you do read joes-tubes and are swayed to the apparent merits of the 5751 'tube' for V2, it is NOT suitable for the BB3.
The different characteristics do not give the correct RIAA equalisation, sorry folks.

If you do read joes-tubes and are swayed to the apparent merits of the 5751 'tube' for V2, it is NOT suitable for the BB3. The different characteristics do not give the correct RIAA equalisation, sorry folks. Read this and closed the page: "Now when it comes to sound quality where do I begin? Well, to my ears - they ALL suck. There, I said it. Even (particularly?) the legendary Telefunkens. How can this be? Well, every 12AX7 I've ever heard has a common sonic character that's drives me to distraction. Specifically, they all sound a bit fuzzy, unfocused and hazy with a subtle sense of a soft sonic haze permeating a soundstage populated with large unfocused images. Added to this are other sonic artifacts unique to each tube"What a load of bollocks. He also slams the GE12AXWA, which i can tell you is one of the most forensic valves i have ever heard! It's brilliantly transparent and almost relentless in the HF. A particularly "un-valve" sounding valve.
