I get that I might have got that one wrong then lol, you can use a 189 in V3 but i never liked them. Other people love them! V1 responds well to valve changes, so get a decent PCC88 for there. The guys here know their onions, so they can point you in the right direction. Haha, yea, I have a, hopefully, decent TFK PCC88 in V1 and TFK ECC83 in V2, the 189 in V3, I thought it was sounding good, but maybe time to roll the TFK PCC88 back into V3 and see how it compares, I'll report back . Love doing these little tweaks while I mull over bigger tweaks in the system!

In my PCC88 search, I have just found some Orega CIFTE valves, so I have bought them.
I think I am now done with valves, for a while.

Prices are only going to go up, so I now have several sets ad spares. These include: Matsushita (a veritable bargain) Tesla Tunsgram ERA (RFT made?) Telefunken Siemens And when the new ones arrive, CIFTE. 5 sets of spares. I think they will last longer than me....

Quiet morning at work. So I was having a look around the interweb, and found tgis site, which seems to have some decent stock of new PCC88 valves at reasonable prices. www.electrontubes.nl/Voorraad/stockset.htmI have no experience of the vendor though, but at €12 for a Siemens PCC88 it could be interesting for a few on here.

What are you doing Kevin, one minute you say "well that's it for now", as soon as you've got a couple of minutes free you're looking at more valves. These smaller purchase items are a temptation to you, stay away and look at items which are too costly for you at the moment.

I didn’t buy anything. I was just looking…. No harm in that.
I am going for the “AAAA” for interesting valve finds (Audio Addicts Antonio Award).

There is stock available. I could get two Siemens PCC88 for €38 posted. Seems like a bargain for someone looking for some tubes for a BB3.

Don’t know yet. Not had a chance to play, what with Chrimbo, school holidays, pony club etc.
There is a chance that we will be at home over chrimbo, so if that happens, I will have plenty of time to play.

I have had to check it works, so I have popped the Tesla foil getter in. Sounds absolutely fine to these ears. Quite happy, considering the price I paid for it.

Yeah, Tesla made some very decent valves......and they didn't. Most I've had here we're microphonic. Thankfully the quartet I currently have are perfect.

Does anyone know what the Siemens made telefunkens sound like compared to telefunken made pcc88’s? Every pcc88 telefunken I see on eBay is the Siemens type!

Not sure. I have some Siemens PCC88 and TFK PCC88, but it would take me a while to determine what the differences are between them. My aural memory can be a bit bad if left too long, and to be honest, I doubt there is that much difference, as they are both quality valves.
I could try a couple of rips with each and let you hear the difference?
What ECC83 are you using?

I am starting to think that the valve rolling in the BB3 only gives minor benefits. Ok, so I am running the AT33PTG/II and not the XX2, but even with my cheapest valves, it still sounds very good. Sure, there are a few minor changes, but I can live with them.

The point is that the BB3 still sounds great with an EI ECC83 and the Matsushita PCC88. Sure, the other valves sound better, but VFM the cheaper valves do a great job.
