Wire and foam with bespke foam stuffing tool (satay skewer) , fairly easy to manage if you are careful.

Thanks, took a bit of figuring but wasn't a nightmare to do , just fiddly. The plug went back in ok, I'll leave a new pin out for the moment so I can check the azimuth is ok when up and running. I checked continuity on tha channels and there are no issues with a short or break in the wire which is a relief!😊

That's great work . Appreciate the pictures , they're a great record for future GL75 modders Where did you get the wire BTW ?

So I have been thinking about plinth possibilities for while and reading up on options. I really liked the style of the old plinth with the sloping lid and also the lid is in very good nick. But the rest of the plinth is a) shite and b) knackered. So after sitting in a small darkened room with a bag over my head (like a Lenco Gimp ) I think I have found a solution. I will get a solid bare plinth and add a back and sides to the same shape as the original. That way I can reuse the lid and keep a similar style but with a solid plinth as a foundation for the turntable unit. So I have ordered one of Lithuania's finest for £125 all in which doesn't seem too bad to me. It will also save me a load of hassle as one thing my Tannoy project has taught me is that woodworking in the garden with no workshop takes for ever as it is so weather dependent. Plinthy thingy
When it gets here I'll have a look at the top plate and decide what I want to do with it and whether I want to have a removeable tone arm board or not. It would be nice to be able to try my AO Uniarm on the finished project as well as the Lenco one.

Looks like a decent plinth and will give you a month or so to decide on all the imponderables!!

Thanks chaps, I'll have to us the time to strip the top plate down and decide on a colour. Also play with arm board configurations.
Have been doing some research on damping materials for my speakers so may incorporate some of this into the top plate, if it proves viable economically !

Couple of bits arrived today, just beating the Christmas lockdown which is nice . Bearing from Malaysia and plinth from Lithuania , both well packed and looking good quality.

Not yet as I have to strip and spray the top plate. What I can do now though is play with configurations and work out what I want to do with a changable arm board. I Must say the plinth is very solid and well made. Comes with an IEC socket fitted too. I have an idea for reducing top plate vibrations too. Its not cheap but I can use some of the material in the Tannoy build. If it looks like it will work. Anyway Oll have a bit of time over xmas now to consider it all and next steps. 🙂 Lockdown has a silve lining after all 😏

Oh also I will have to drill a hole for the bearing in the plinth base as it is a long barrel version. I got this rather than the short barrelled bearing as the extra length is supposed to give it slightly more stability when rotating. No idea how valid this is but they cost the same so no loss. Might see if I can fit a clamp at the base of it to give it some more rigidity.

Ok so had some Lenco time today. First drilled a hole for the bottom of the bearing to come through.

Cut some threaded rod to hold the top plate onto the plinth with.

The hole was slightly off centre but no matter. I will fit a flange at the bottom to brace it on the inside.

Of course I had to fit the platter and jave a spin for fun 😊 , very smooth it is too. Next will be stripping the top plate and deciding what colour to spray it.

Looking great - are you putting anything underneath the top plate? Yes , I'm looking into cabinet damping for my Tannoys so have some ideas for things that I can use for the top plate.
