I have just picked one up from here: jamestransformer.com/en_index.htmlThe cost was $43 inc postage to the UK. I will report back on it's performance once i have it here. I will put it in the Bigbottlov as an experiment.

I'm very pleased with the price.....just hoping it's silent when powered up, or it'll be in the bin.

I've got a bin with lots of hummy ones here, it can go in there if it mis-behaves.

No it’s the 6N2P-EV installed in that video. The Iphone can’t capture lower freq. so it sound a bit thin and bright. But if you are actually listening here it’s really awesome lol..

Thank you Oliver for documenting the excellent build. Are you planning to add the logo on the power supply? If yes, it might look great with the power switch that Iceman selected in the middle circle.

No problem, it's good to share the build as it helps pass the time for the new owner while they watch their build come together. There are no plans to add the logo to the PSU at the moment. I am very happy with how the Phonostage is looking and Modushop do a great job on the casework.

They dont look like fakes...so thats a good start. As long as they are PCC88 they should be ok. NOS is impossible to find at the moment.

Mouser had 2000+ of the BF861B fet we use on the BB3. When I mentioned it was now out of manufacture, the lot were gone the next day! I bought 200 to add to the 100 I have, just in case but these things have a habit of selling out quickly *BTW don't worry about the availability of the JFET in terms of the BB3, I have loads and have found an equivalent/alternative JFET that I am just about to trial. Support for the BB3 is in no danger!

Cheers mate. J It's not life or death important as V1 has a different function to V3. It's fine. Also, you'd be lucky to find any matched pairs for less than the price of a black market kidney.

Oh I see. I didn’t know that v1 and v3 have diff. functions. So that’s a good news for BB3 owners like me. Thanks for the clarification Oli. Another food for thought. Nice to learn something everyday lol.

I don’t know where to start this but here it goes. This album was one of the early I had and it sound I would day horrible. It is dull, lifeless and a way to a charity shop. BUT that was when I still have my previous deck and ps. Today I gave it another chance on my deck and BB3. First track ‘Hotel California’ and I was shocked. WTF this is not the same album right! My jaw just dropped and I cant believed what Im hearing! I asked myself if can this be possible? The music just came alive! Vocals, drums, cymbals etc. just sound more vibrant and played together in their right own place. Well now this album is now on the front queue on my small album collection.

That's a very good result, I really don't think you can go wrong with improving the system to give whatever is in the groove the best chance. What may have appeared to be bad recordings can come alive, the only recordings I have had to stop are on CD in fact. One particular CD of Snow Patrol is so distorted it is unforgivable by whoever engineered it.
