I'd have to have a listen to it first before spending out 2 grand, though.

That's the $64,000 question. A good improvement was having the new attenuators installed in the NVA P90sa you sold me Macca.

No, not in my opinion, The DCB1 in Full fat 1.2A turbo is very hard to beat. However, don't do anthing preamp wise. I have something in the works that should be pretty much as transparent and well balanced as anything available at any money. Angus has an idea and i am waiting the first prototype to try it. The Weilang is good for the money though

That was already pretty good. The ones that were in it cost me £300, it had some crappy after-market tatty ones on it when I got it. The pots didn't even match.
DCB1 is better though, although there was not much in it, probably your upgrade puts them on a par.

I can go back to collecting the Black Tulip stuff. Maybe see how my Tannoys are coming on.

Nah, I'm happy with what I have right now.
They've sold a lot off units so they will always be coming up for sale second-hand. There's a new model on the way too so that'll help. I can always get one further down the line.
This is what I was asking you about the speakers for. I remember now when I came to collect the Krell you still had those Pioneers. They were not worthy! You were getting fifty percent of what that amp can do. If you still had kept it when you got those Mordaunt Shorts I don't reckon you would have bothered to change, except maybe for curiosity's sake.

Haha, love a Wayne's World reminder Yes, I accept that the Pioneers were a very good speaker but some way short of what I am getting from the Mordaunt Short Performance 880's HOWEVER That rich creamy tone was evident with the Pioneers, and as they were quite rough around the edges, I suspect the effect would have been intensified with the MSP880's being very refined?

Until I put this Oppo player in I would 100% have agreed with you. But it is like I changed the amplifier too. I still can't get my head around it.

I do not doubt your take on it in the slightest. We will definitely get the Neurochrome up to you and we will see what's happens then. Be good to hear the behemoth that is the Krell, again.

Bung some Neil Young in for an HDCD experience. Or Roxy Music - if you're a fan:

I do have a fair few Neil Young albums on CD so had a look through to see if any were HDCD versions - but only one is - 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.' And it has the HDCD logo on it which apparently a lot don't - although found this list here wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=List_of_HDCD-encoded_Compact_Discs so I compared catalogue numbers instead. I've never had an HDCD compatible player before so I'll give it a try later on and see what I think.

yep, it's fantastic. The previous owner contacted me to advise that there is a 'Pure Audio' setting which you can toggle on and off on the remote. It kills the display and switches off all the video side of things. Sadly I am unable to distinguish any difference. But, depending on what you play, the sound quality ranges from very good to jaw-dropping.
I put on Tull - 'Songs from The Wood' the other night, which I've had a copy of (tape, then vinyl then CD) for 30 odd years. Right from the start it was 'what the F#ck?' Just astonishing, no hi-fi system in the way, just the music hanging in space like some big, invisible, three-dimensional animal moving around behind the speakers.
Been listening to music a lot since I got it which is always a tell-tale sign.

Actually if there is a downside the bass is not all it could be. Might not be the player's fault, it's hard to say. Player could be neutral and it's the room or speaker positioning (they are way out from the wall, like about 8 feet). Just seems a bit down in level compared to the rest of the frequency range. And lacking a bit of solidity.
Only notice it on some stuff though. Did not have that issue with the Sony/KSA50S combo though.
Still pondering biting the bullet on that RME ADI2 DAC. I can see that happening in the near future, my resistance is weakening daily!

even if it wasn't you've got the parametric EQ to sort it out....I might have a shop around. New one is out now so the older one might be reduced a bit to clear.

Cheapest I can find is £888 incl shipping. I've 'added to basket'...still not 100% that it's something I really need though.

Okay, I have made a deal with myself. If and when I get the spring cleaning finished I will buy it as a reward.
The cleaning is a big job though. Hercules would be happy to swap with me. I'm covering every square inch meticulously. I started at the front of the house and am working backwards. So far I'm about 10 feet in and that's taken about 6 hours over several weeks. I should probably take fewer tea breaks.
