Hurrah - found the remote last night for the pre-amp. Shoved some batteries in and its alive Connected the motor to the mains and it spun around - also moving the platter. Will have to sort out a switch for it now. Looking at how to mount the top plinth with the Lenco attached to it to the bottom plinth so I can interchange Lencos'! See if I have a few hours spare this evening.

Sat here drunk and listening to tunes off YouTube through the TV, I have been thinking of where I am with what I have in the back room.
Regards the Michell Orbe, why did I end up with this? My first proper TT was a Syncro which I had for around 9 years and found that I loved what it did (used the same amp and speakers) then moved onto the Gyro in 1995. Absolutely loved this - looks and sound - then had a change and started to use my Lenco so moved the Gyro on.
Lenco worked well but still had the itch for another Michell - why, not sure......
Got the Orbe and after a bit of faffing around went...ahhhhh
Tweaking further with arms, Petes Pylons, SkateBoard wheels and other stuff.. It ticks every box I could want, visually and sonically.
The Lenco is still here (re-plinthed again) and new speakers, amp etc but the Orbe is here to stay.

Been a busy few weeks so not progressed on the ‘project’ as much and as quick as I was hoping for. But the last few weeks I managed to move forward. Soldered in the phono plugs onto the preamp board so I can connect the phono preamp and also the PI. Also soldered a pair of RCA sockets so I can connect it to a power amp until I can make/get one to fit inside the plinth. Put paint on the top plinth but the first go reacted with the undercoat so had to sand it back – found some old (very old) white paint and rolled it on – it will do for now. The front panel, did the same and reacted with the undercoat but will do for now until I can get some new paint then I will sand this back also and go again. Found some old brown spray paint and covered the ring that goes around the platter – will require a few more coats. While putting everything back in the front panel, the ribbon cable broke as can be seen below, so had to desolder and resolder but works – hurrah Here is what it looks like now: Nearly there! Also, I have put an old bean bag in the garage ready to go to the council tip. The cat decided to start parking himself there while I work in the garage

Hahaha I love this project.
Did you find a phonostage for it? I presume small footprint SS stage is on the menu?

Thanks all - yes the cat is a hard task master!! Regards the phonostage - I have one to fit from an old Rotel integrated amp, just need to sort out a +15v 0v -15v PSU so for the sort term I will use a battery powered VSPS phono stage I have to hand. Not had a listen as yet as I also need a power switch for the TT as at the moment it will always be on when the unit is powered up! Saw you PM Brian and replied

Looks like PB is on its way out again.......... Anywho, wired everything in and connected it to an old lo-fi system I use in the garage for background sounds. Tried the PI first and sounds good: Here is a view of the little system. Then installed an arm and cartridge and found a few old LP's in the garage (used to be my grandparents) and fired it up - it sounded pretty good Plus - I have another plinth that I can swap (still needs work)

Thanks guys. Almost there then I will probably dismantle it all as nowhere in the house to put it and space in the garage is starting to be a premium Was just a bit of fun (and frustration) during the Covid-19 lockdown. Need to put my focus back on to my van.

I will be voting for you in the Cabin Fever competition. There is some amazing stuff being done on LH. I think Peters Chop Sticks tonearm is also an engineering triumph.

Cat has to stay Yes - had the old girl for 15 years - a 1972 VW camper. Replaced lower 6 inches (chassis and body) - rebuilt the engine and hoping to slot it in next week.

So - dismantled the music centre and put away. Found another unfinished Lenco project Was designed to take larger arms (which I was working on but again never finished) such as 14 and 16 inch!! Who know's, may have another go at finishing it off - but van work first
