Lookslike the Gvt is setting an example of it's own herd immunity policy.

The Science suggests not. I think the biggest issue is how long the thing lives on surfaces. That layer of fat on it is keeping the bastard alive for far longer than most other virus can. It's scary, 41 deaths in the West Midlands in the last 24 hours. Italy 919 in 24 hours.....As soon as this breaks out in one of the African countries, you will see how devastating it will be. The poverty in some of these areas means they just cannot distance themselves from it. The US is gonna be in real trouble soon too. Their number of infected have exploded since the first case and i strongly believe that there will be a huge loss of life there. They have ignored what the rest of the world is saying, to a greater degree than we did. Heard from a friend of mine tonight that his wife (a nurse) says that they aren't even really trying to revive the elderly, such is the scale of the pandemic. Said they get one hit on the electric paddles and if they don't respond, they tag em and bag em. I don't know how true that is, but it's not like him to lie. I have read that they are doing that in Italy too. They are completely overwhelmed. NEC is getting a super hospital, much like the one set up in London. Total Morgue capacity at NEC: 12,500. I went out walking the streets of Bushbury with my dogs, for their exercise this evening and it's like the wild west. Fucking ridiculous. Groups of grown men drinking in the street, letting the kids play out together, riding their bikes etc. Then when the plod turn up and start dishing out fines, they start abusing them. The stupidity on show here is baffling. I only venture out to take supplies to my mom, when i go to get ours. Other than that and walking the dogs, were in. safest place to be.

If it was airborne you could multiply those figures by a thousand at least. Only a tiny percentage of the total population have tested positive and of them only a small percentage die. And the only people being tested are those who have serious symptoms so the actual percentage of people who catch it and die is very, very low. And overwhelmingly they are over 70 years of age and have existing medical conditions. It's still a serious problem but let's not get carried away.

If China is anything to go by after a high of just over 14,000 new cases per day the figure then dropped quite dramatically down to 13 after which it has slowly crept up to 56. So though they are not quite out of the water things are 1000's of times better.

Also though I personally am not a member of any social media I can only imagine the level of utter bollocks presently passed around as facts. If you must chase facts then do so from the scientific community not the tabloid press or facebook and for your own sanity do so only once a day or as little as is possible. The most important fact is that only a very tiny percent of the population will succumb to the virus and if on a personal level you minimise your own exposure then we will get through this. STOP SPREADING FEAR AND NONSENSE.

Early this morning we had a food parcel delivered courtesy of HM Government. I registered the missus online as she is one of the people that has to lockdown for 12 weeks. It contains an assortment of food like bread, spuds, UHT milk, tea bags and some fruit, but only a tin of corned beef as protein.
I am used to governments making grandiose statements about their "generosity" during this crisis yet little happening in short time on the ground, but this is impressive for once.

The figures for positive cases in country this have been estimated... By scientists , as at least one tenth of the true figures. Thats from them , not the general public or face book or scare mongers. I think people need to be scared ! They might behave them bloody selves a bit better ! .

The scary thing about this virus, is that you may have it, and not know. A 14 day incubation period is not unknown. I have concerns for aging parents in the U.K. If any thing happens, I am unlikely to able to go and visit them, or sort anything out for them.

Just chatting to my neighbour who is a pub landlord. He closed up over a week ago but had punters saying 'You'll still be letting us in round the back though, right?'
Three pubs here raided, front doors locked but they were full of people. Not been up to the city centre myself but he says that it's been 'packed with people' all week. Mainly youngsters.
At this rate we'll still have to be isolating at Christmas.

As we have seen mostly scared people don't behave themselves they panic, panic buy, panic for loved ones and panic for themselves. My point is if all you hear, see and read is the death toll and scare mongering it will not lead to love for the fellow man but to depression and panic.

At this rate we'll still have to be isolating at Christmas. Unless we deploy the army on the streets there will always be a very small minority of idiots that rebel against anything they are told to do. If we do deploy the army and the police as they have in India then you have the logistical nightmare ogf getting food to people, we have friends in Goa who are now being told that after 72 hours or so of total state enforced lockdown thew will be allowed out dor 24 hours to buy provisions. So any good that may have been gained by this forced lockdown will be wiped out by people rushing around panic buying. I hate to say this but the government seems to have the right approach so far advise people to stay at home unless completely needed with a lightly enforced police prescence but demand uneeded businesses close under threat of fine and closure.

Why do you hate to say it ? I've put aside all political leanings during this. Up to the last few years I've been inclined to the labour side but I have to say that this government is handling it as well as I could expect.

They atent. They left isolation 4-5 days too late, they're underperforming on support to the nhs and social care is fucked.
Half a million waiting for universal credit, when that starts to bite financially there will be chaos.

I agree with Engine, they are handling this pretty well and I didn't vote for them even though I am a fan of Boris.
We will never know whether they left it too late or not to isolate everyone, especially as there are still stupid morons out there that think it is ok to let their children play in the street whilst they are having a fag and chatting to their mates.
Nobody could have predicted how bad this was going to become, although I do agree with Macca, there is still too much scaremongering going on, the death rate is still only sitting around 1%, yes that isn't nice for anyone who is effected by this, but it is also still comparatively low.

For someone who has put aside political leanings you’ve done a good job of trying to start a political discussion and then also described the way you previously lent and how you now lean politically.

TBH I think the messaging at the start was contradictory and confusing, not very well handled at all. This means that people didn't really understand how potentially dangerous the situation was and it has led to more exposure than needed. They did a quick about face on the herd immunity thing which has only added to the confusion. We have lost a week or 2 but now seem to be on the right track.
1000 deaths reached today, given how infectious it is and how it is spreading there is not an over reaction really. Especially when you take into account how it is absorbing all NHS spare capacity so people may well be dying of other health issues who cannot be treated.

Let's not turn this thread political.
That is one thing that makes this forum significantly better than the other Hifi forums about, the lack of politics, so let's keep it that way!

Our friends in Spain sent us a video of their beautiful toddler whose just become tall enough to open the door on her own they also left us a message to say that we will all be together again soon enough, it was nice to see a young life oblivious to this virus just enjoying growing and to imagine a time after all of this.

Wife's just gone into the local co op They're not even letting couples in. I'm outside waiting. Brilliant really. Can't knock them. I see the Italians have started rioting. They've really had it bad haven't they ? Trouble is I suppose it's inevitable that we're on course for the same thing.

Yes, NO Politics please haha,
Thanks Pauld for reaffirming this point.
At this time, we are humans, nothing else.
Personally, I've noticed a big change in my local community in terms of community spirit.
Whilst there are still a decent percentage of dickheads knocking about, the locals are talking to each other over fences and in their front gardens.
The youngsters wint remember a time where everyone who walked past used to say hello but they are seeing that now. The Earth is be benefitting. Pollution is massively reduced, air quality is greatly improving....its not all negative.

In America free enterprise is as usual coming before everything. Ventilators are doubling in price because the manufacturers are letting individual states gazump each other to buy them. Up from 25k each to nearly 50k each. Good to see that the corporate mercenaries are not suffering. Why the hell doesn't Trump grow a pair and force them to do the right thing ? Up production and price fix at least.

Maybe they're rioting against being locked up with no income and faced with an intransigent government who is more focused on stock market and corporations than on putting bread on the plate of the unemployed.
There has to be an available universal wage/credit for people who cant work. Unless the uk gov gets their act together with the 500k universal credit claimants and the 6 week wait there will be anarchy. As soon as peoples money runs out they'll take what they want to eat if they cant pay for it.
Its inevitable. And I reckon we're less than 30 days away from full scale rioting if nothing changes.
