That's not a bad price really, and totally perfect for the Umbilical cable. Hmmm

New traffo is here.....absolutely stinks of varnish, which is a good sign. Other indicators of "good iron" is the weight. Well at 1.5kgs, theres certainly good weight. Must say, this is one good looking transformer. End bells, copper wrap and nicely finished. Well done my new favourite Chinese supplier. I just hope it isnt noisy

Well good news!
It doesnt mechanically buzz...not even slightly....not even to let you know its powered up.
It also measures really well too.
I am massively impressed. I didn't expect that to be the case in all honesty. A wild punt from a company I have never used but without getting ahead of myself, the listening is where the "success" lies.

It does. End bells and everything are very nicely finished.... Looks even better now.... It's not perfect but it was another opportunity to practice my decal skills

Going to mount it outside the case, in true valve amp stylee? No....I'll put it in that spare enclosure I have for the time being and then when funds allow, I'll rebuild the whole thing into nice pair of boxes As this is a continually disassembled unit for experiments, I'm waiting until the MultiFET boards are done and then I'll think about a FINAL assembly lol

How does it compare to the one Paul got for you?

That's the question. Will there be a difference? Should there be a difference? Probably not.

I am sure there will be a difference between different manufactures of quality E/I transformers. That's the question. Will there be a difference? Should there be a difference? Probably not.

Well, iMHO it's as good as the traffo paul got for me. What's an added bonus, is that I can literally whack up the Wazoo of the PCB and It makes no noise at all
Staying with the 2 box build though as i seriously believe it's the best way.

I am sure there will be a difference between different manufactures of quality E/I transformers. That's the question. Will there be a difference? Should there be a difference? Probably not. Well, it's really hard to say if there is or there isnt any difference between the two transformers. As I said, I certainly hear a pronouncement improvement over the Torroid, but I heard that previously. The Chinese transformer is really well made. I measured it and it was spot on...not something that is always delivered with these things. Mechanically, its absolutely silent. You would not know it was even powered up. I have done my obligatory tests and I have put the transformer on top of the phonostage and I cannot hear any effect from noise or hum, so that's a huge bonus. End Bells and a copper band obviously are the way to go.

Umbilical in place.... I decided to rebuild the phonostage and the traffo properly and leave the bloody thing in place for a couple of weeks lol It's taken all bloody day lol So, this phonostage is 100% free from hum. And I mean devoid of hum...it doesnt exist, and the noise is so far up the Stepped Attenuator that it would be impossible to put the needle onto a record without causing serious speaker damage. The BF862 MultiFET boards have had the desired effect and getting any traffo out of the box is a must for me now. Very pleased with the result and I'm looking forward to seeing what the BF861B MultiFET boards will do.

Nice. When are you gonna get a listen? Been Listening for the last hour or so. I am so happy with the sound i am getting. Forget all the nonsense about "best" or "Audiophile speak" It's just hitting the spot. Like when you fuss a dog and it starts scratching uncontrollably...Like it's been possessed.
