From personal experience the mood one finds oneself in makes a big part of what music I listen to and at what volume I physically listen to said music at.
For example if my day at work has gone well, I have solved a particularly challenging power supply ripple problem on the latest project, when returning home will happily listen to some Chopin or Barb Jung and enjoy a rather nice glass of Chilean Merlot.
If the day has gone badly conversely I will put on some Stone Roses or Rachmaninoff at silly O'clock and crack open a bottle of King Goblin, and for myself never the twain shall meet

I see the tone on this thread seems to have improved somewhat now that a jammy situation has been removed. This is actually a jammy thread. Anyway, I don't think mood comes into my listening, as I only play Marilyn Manson.
Well as they say in their works bullpit, each to their own Walpurgis I am sure it brings you relief in your own way

If I'm tired after work I don't listen to music. Listening to music seems to require mental energy expenditure whereas watching the telly doesn't.

The equivalent for me in terms of mental relaxation would be reading a whodunnit as opposed to a 'serious' book. I can't bear having the telly on unless there's something I actually want to watch (which is almost never).

Actually can't remember the last time I watched a TV show that required me to use my brain. Do they still make stuff like that? You know, like James Burke used to do, that sort of thing?

I do find it quite hard to follow the plot in modern films though.
Was watching 'The Bridges At Toko Rai' the other day, William Holden, made in the late 1950s. No problem following what was going on all the way through.
Then watched Star Wars 'Rogue One' - was lost after ten minute. Kept having to rewind it. You know when something happens and you think 'What? That makes no sense!'?
So you go back to see what crucial bit of plot development you missed, and there it is, tucked away in a bit of hard to hear dialogue. Gets on my tits, frankly.

TV not a past time I partake in myself, a good novel or cinema are my other preferred methods of unwinding

It's worth watching just to see the amazing Convair B-36 bombers from the fifties, some great footage.

Yes, usually shown on BBC4, in amongst the repeats of TOTP.

If it's Rock Hudson starring and it is absolute shite then I have. The planes don't save it.

Except football, I find that very easy to do. Anyway, how about perhaps the ultimate misconception..... The heavier (kgs) the amplifier, the better it is. That may have had a truth about it at one time but that is certainly not the case now.
