Few things I noticed last night, 1st impressions but still.
Seems to have higher output that the Mk1 as the volume is turned down a notch or 2
Very quiet in operation.
Better separation of instruments and individual parts of the music, not in an overly analytical way though.
Wider and deeper sound stage than the Mk1 and the unmodded Mk3
More detail, I mentioned the hi hat work difference above, this is quite subtle in a lot of tracks with various bands. But now it seems quite discernible in the background, when drummers use the clutch to give little highlights and accents to their playing.
Decay on particular notes, cymbals etc is longer but not artificial or forced.
Overall a lot more clarity to the music than the Mk1, not that that was poor at all, but it is a noticeable difference imo. It is a step up from the unmodded Mk3 too, not as much but noticeable (for a modest outlay too!).
I used the same caps/components in both builds so they are fairly comparable in that regard. There was a clear improvement on the Mk1 sound by the unmodded Mk3 so the improvements are in the circuit and PCB layout I guess. The PCB was very nice to work with.
The MultiFET boards enhance and accentuate these improvements to no small degree and for £25 plus a bit of fiddling you can't go wrong really!!
really looking forwards to a few lost evenings and weekends with this.

Ok just a quick calculation of costs for those that are interested. I made my own case from free/donated stuff so saved a lot of money here but all in cost of parts was about £420 including all Mundorf foo caps, transformer and the FET boards.
On top of this add about £60 or so I guess for tools (mostly drill bits etc) and polishing stuff for the aluminium case and oiling for the veneer.
So say £500 all in , no idea what that would get you but nothing like this performance i'm guessing.
Thanks Oli and Alan!
Great build support too.

Fantastic overview, Andy.
Yes, you're not going to find anything under £1k that comes close and id hasten to add that in realistic terms, you'd be looking at a minimum of £1400RRP in the commercial world, to even start to being in the same performance ballpark.
Saw that torroid to an EI (£50) and put itbin a separate case (£50) and you can start forgetting all about buying another phonostage because for that performance youd need deep deep pockets.
Really enjoyed Watching your progress and seeing you build these phonostages. Thank YOU for being part of the project.
Enjoy!
PS is it a good time to mention the new Bigbottle Preamp??? Lol
