Ok so listing to a few albums tonight and some of the etchyness (is that a word! lol) has gone from the detail in the sound and it's starting to have a very natural sound. With no loss of detail if you see what I mean.
Might be the telefunkens burning in but listening to Physical Graffiti now and it's sounding delicate, powerful and intricate. Big soundstage and depth to it too. Ffing great! Very pleased with how it's coming on!

Ok so fitted the MK1 board back in and this is how it looks with the valves exposed which is what I envisaged the build would look like in the 1st place. Very pleased with how its worked out and while waiting for the pcb to be sorted (thanks Alan) knocked up a MK3. π€£ I'll now play this in until the multifet boards arrive and then swap the pcb over for the fettled MK3. At that point I'll be able to judge properly the performance gains when all the improvements have been taken into account. Should be a great comparisonπ Inalso have a soft start mute board from Alan for the MK3 so I'll fit that at the same time and tidy up some of the wiring. Really enjoyable project, even with the hitches (on the MK1).

Nice job, well made and end result looks good....just don't drop it on your bare toe! Thanks Paul, your comments are much appreciated, so far the toe is ok as I have managed to get it to the shelf without dropping it! It's very heavy, the result of using 4mm Aluminium plate for the base and sides, 18 mm ply for the case, some hefty aluminum feet plus traffo! I've not weighed it but I reckon it's north of 10kgs, so I hope the house isn't susceptible to subsidence

Had a meganumpty moment today π€£ Sat down to listen to the MK1 and thought
"Hmm sounds a bit thin where's the bass gone? I'm sure the MK3 sounded a lot fuller than that."
Cue head scratching and wondering if the board was still burning in, I haven't played it that much.
2 albums later still the same and I have concluded the MK3 is a much better iteration of this stage due to the more powerful bass presence.
Got up to draw the curtains and realised I'd forgotten to turn the sub on! π€£π€£π€£π€£
Sounds a smidge better now π
Moral of the story - I don't have a Danny Larue.

Seriously, and bearing in mind I've been living with the MK3 for a few weeks now I noticed a difference in clarity when I swapped it over. The MK1 has less "definition" to the sound. It needs a bit more running in really but that was an immediate impression on switch on.

The multifet boards will increase that definition and if you want to get even more, an EI transformer will add to that again.

Outrageous lol I have considered itπ If I do then I'll buy a small case for the traffo. But once the boards are in I think I will invest my time and money into finishing my tannoys off. it's only been 3 years + tinkering with them lol.
