Cue drum roll for tonight’s mystery punter… 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁 Yup… it’s me. Joining the Neuromob!! Neuromob!!!… I like it. When I first heard a Neurochrome it was obviously in Oli’s system. I was very very impressed.. especially with the big Q Acoustics. However when I heard the combination of the Neurochrome 686 with Jason’s Troels Gravesen Ekta’s it was one of those instants where I couldn’t unhear it. I think listening to music I didn’t know but still drawn into it was an irresistible feeling. I suspect from outside the forum it seems that members here are gravitating towards similar systems. They would probably be correct… with very good reason.

Had an issue for a while now of the TV losing picture and sound intermittantantly, so was advised to buy a better quality HDMI cable amd today decided to fit it. It is a bloody heavy SONY 55 inch and takes two people to lift it off the wall mount. A mate came over to help and we got it down but only so far as all the cables were still attached. While holding the weight with my right hand I plugged the cable in with my left hand. While putting it back up again my thumb lightly pressed on the glass in the bottom corner and that has buggered the pixels over a third of the screen. Said cheerio to over seven hundred quid on a new TV

I've been playing with DACs Following the demise of the USB on my Black Ice DSD I grabbed a Topping D10 for £70 of fleabay. Then spotted an 18 month old Cambridge DacMagic Plus for £125 in the Wam classifieds so nabbed that aswell thinking the Topping would sound absolutely shite. The Topping turned up around 10am so I could finally use my ZenITH again, and the Topping is surprisingly good for what is peanuts in this game. Then around 1pm the Cambridge arrived so plumbed it in and was again surprised by how good it sounded for the money. The fact that it up-samples everything to 24/384 probably helps take the SQ above the D10, the D10 however lets me play the few DSD64 albums I have. Obviously these 2 Dacs are not my BI and as such whilst the sound is quite full and detailed, all the nuances, richness have disappeared along with the soundstage which has shrunk considerably ajd become decidedly 2D.
BLACK ICE UPDATE Robert PM'd to say he'd received my BI, plumbed it into his system feeding it from the USB out of his Node (latest spec) and all was sounding wonderful. WTF!!! I had no output from USB under any test conditions (ZenITH, laptop, 2 different cables) and did immediate swaps to my mates AudioLab M Dac for each test condition and got music. He will, be contacting the manufacturer to see if they've got an answer, in the meantime he is doing a couple of further upgrades though I've refused the installation of a poncey foo fuse. It came with an SRA Black fitted, I'm NOT shelling out £200 for a QSA Yellow one, getting into foo is a step to far for me.

Today my tennent is out so have been playing with the filters on the DacMagic Plus and have decided that #3 (steep) makes it a far more acceptable listen (still nowhere near the BI though).
Also playing with a GamuT D200 mk2 inplace of my Nords, me like! 😊😊 Gives a fuller more authoritative sound with more controlled bass, so much so I've had to back off the bass controls. Just waiting to see if the friend who's having a, play with my Icon monos likes them enough to do a PX deal with the GamuT (money my way) hope so as i wanna keep it.

Gamut D200 MK II and above nice amplifier, imho way more texture and bass reality than a Nords plus real palable 3D, I have recapped a couple recently and they are true dual mono amps.
You could do a hellva a lot worse John

It came with an SRA Black fitted, I'm NOT shelling out £200 for a QSA Yellow one, getting into foo is a step to far for me. Due to get the BI back tomorrow with the final round of upgrades done, barring a silly priced foo fuse. According to Robert, there is now nothing further can that can be done to pimp this, the final, mods, being: •Disconnect Wifi section from power & digital boards • Feet: RDC5 cones • DC cap on mains board now a Solen FEP (Teflon) type • Resistor on mains board that feeds the tubes now a Mills 12w (up from 2w) • Cap on digital board now an Elna Cerafine This makes my BI DSD about the most pimped one out there, the complete list of mods looks like this: Initial upgrades… Nov 21 Synergistic Research Black fuse Mundorf Supreme output capacitors Z-foil resistors on output tube board (x4) 5v regulator to NewClassD 2x low voltage caps upgraded in value and to Nichicon KA 14/12/22 • V-caps ODAM on output (Mundorf out) • Silver wired output and Audio Note silver plated RCA’s • 12v regulator now NewClassD • SR Black fuse orientation corrected • Furutech gold IEC • DC cap upgrade on mains board - Mundorf Evo/Oil • Bypassed cheap mains 230v jumper • Low voltage caps swapped to Audio Note • High voltage caps swapped to Audio Note • Low voltage bypass caps now Wima • Disconnected blue and orange LEDs 25/05/23 •Disconnect Wifi section from power & digital boards • Feet: RDC5 cones • DC cap on mains board now a Solen FEP (Teflon) type • Resistor on mains board that feeds the tubes now a Mills 12w (up from 2w) • Cap on digital board now an Elna Cerafine

Today I did the deal and PX'd my IA MB845SEs for the GamuT D200 and some ££s. Not as much as I originally wanted but it needed a re-valve and its gone to a mate, I've got an upgrade and have maintained my desire to have a £0 hifi year. Also when I get round to it and put them up for sale, I will get £700ish back from selling the Nords.

Its not a big leap forward, but its a positive one to my ears. It's added some weight and richness to the sound which is now fuller, plus the soundstage seems larger and deeper, bass also seems a bit tighter. Ordinarily I wouldn't have paid £1200 for the level of SQ change I've got but the deal meant I got back what I paid for the Icons 6 years ago and no need to spunk £400 on valves to get a sale elsewhere. Once the Nords are sold then I'm where I wanted to be on the IAs sale price, so a zero cost upgrade.

Anyway, sounds like you're I. A particularly good spot at the moment. Well done!

Only problem Robert could find woth the usb was a tiny burr of plastic that may have been interfering with the connection. He's trimmed this and tweaked the contacts. It would have had back last weekend if he hadn't had to wait for 1 of the caps and the resistor to turn up and get fitted.

I've been waiting weeks for a soft start and a PSU PCB. Any road, glad it's on its way back to you.

BI is now back and in the system, BUT.................. When I first got it back in I had exactly the same problem, No Output & 0 - 9 second track loop, slow to see DAC. Dicked around, rebooting ZenITH, App, BI, Tablet changing cables. Had the BI working with my laptop so therefore knew it must be a software issue/bug. Sent a bug report to Innuos via the link in the App, within 5 minutes I had a reply and a solution. In the latest software version (which I'd installed) there was a hidden switch for MQA detection under advanced settings which switching off helps resolve any compatibility issues with legacy DACs, YAY!!! music.
Fook me sideways, what music,😄 it sounds bloody incredible, a very liquid sound now. Not sure how much is the change from a week of using a DacMagic Plus, or the addition of the GamuT D200 into the system inplace of the Nords. These latest minor mods have really been the icing on an already stunning cake. Either way I don't care, I'm a very very happy boy, and grinning like a loon.
