Hi Steve
It was nice to listen to some vinyl again in real world but well put togther set up (we have a fancy pants thingy at home, buts it's been played maybe three times in the last 18 months). I took along the Rockna WL dac, an Aurender N10 via AES,using the Rockna's own pre amp single ended in a little power amp I threw together a while ago, made some very musical engaging sounds with Jason's great speakers.

Today I went back to the future (for my 2nd system). Prior to getting back into this hobby in August 2016 I had a Technics SL-PG440A CDP that I bought new in December 94. It finally gave up the ghost in May of 2016 after 22 years of sterling service, I rather stupidly went out and bought a Cambridge CD10 to replace it, YUK vile sounding thing, but did eventually manage find some muppet to buy it of me. Anyway got #1 rig up and running so didn't bother with another CDP in that system until 2020 when I picked up a mk1 Marantz CD63SE for £70, something which I'd lusted after at the time, why I don't know as it sounded a bit thin and uninvolving. Anyway last friday I spotted a really nice serviced example of my old Technics complete with remote and transport locking pins for £90 so grabbed it. It arrived today and it sounds so good in system 2, no wonder I stuck with it for 22 years. Have given the Marantz to a mate to take to Leamington next weekend to see if he can shift it for me as I'm definitely sticking with the Technics and taking it to the Wam show along with the rest of my vintage rig.

Hi Tony, it was great to meet you yesterday and welcome you to ARKE HQ. I am glad my setup wasn't too uncomfortable to listen to! As mentioned yesterday, it is still a work in progress and shall be on pause during our renovation mayhem! The digital front-end you brought was a fantastic combo and certainly sounded good with no digital 'nasties'! The little power amp was rather special too! Thanks for an enlightening window in the world of the next level (well, maybe a few levels up!). It was great to hear the Vaders getting taken up a notch or two. I shall add some of my further thoughts to my blog soon...

Not me. Today I serviced the wife's car (oil and filter change), cut the grass, cut branches smaller so they could go in the recycle bin. Made dinner, then tea (wife in bed not feeling well). Sorted out Sully - gave him his meds while he recovers from the surgery. Listened to about 6 CD's (using the free CD player which is bloody good through my lovely valve amp [which is for sale by the way....])
Oh, and washed pots after dinner and tea and hoovered up!
Tomorrow I plan to repair a broken front mudguard on the motorbike with some new stuff I received from EBay to see if it works (video's make it look good)
Eurovision - what's that then??

Non hifi related: As some of you may know I damaged the front mudguard when moving the bike in the garage at Christmas and forgot the disk lock was on (double doh) I bought a replacement which is fine but came in white and doesn't match the rest of the bodywork so I decided to see if I can repair the broken one with the intention of spraying it in the same colour as the lower bodywork. So I bought some plastic repair stuff I saw on the interweb (plastex) and gave it a go today: This is what I started with: Put tape on the underside of the damage and ground out a V shape(ish) where the damage is, ended up with this: Cleaned it up and added the plastex stuff: Sanded down: had some off-white paint to hand so gave it a few coats to see how it looks - will need a bit of fettling then will rough it all up, get the right paint and go for it Cheers

Very nice Oli! Would you mind describing how you will do the PSU? I’m asking because I’m seriously thinking about building one. 😀

Very nice Oli! Would you mind describing how you will do the PSU? I’m asking because I’m seriously thinking about building one. 😀 The PSU will have 80000uf of capacitance in total, with a 600va Toroidy transformer with four independent windings. I am not sure how much more i can say as it's Angus's overall design for the PSU. That said, there are MANY ways to make a PSU. This traffo has four 22vdc secondaries IIRC, so you could use a conventional type PCB from Jims Audio (or the like) to make a 686 PSU. Happy to help you pick something out
