If those yammies are for fucking sale ......🤪 I doubt you'll get them from Jamie. They are super speakers and he'd be bonkers to let them go Thanks a lot. 🙄

Shouldn't three ways with drivers offset have them set on the inside to prevent baffle reflections fecking with the imaging, especially when they're not toed in? That's what I was taught anyway by people who know what they're on about... I seem to recall the more expensive and rather better NS2000's had vertical inline drivers. They did - forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/vintage-yamaha-ns-2000-speakers-w-pics.775880/My latest experiments with Spicas and Elas would say you’re right, Dave,

The pic above with drivers on the inside is how I was taught to do it and how so many speakers like this are set - I learned from IMF in the mid 70's and ATC in the 90's, their designers giving chapter and verse - sorry. I don't remember my NS1000's having typed or written L and R on the back, but maybe my memory is shagged here (quite possibly). You *should in theory* get slightly better imaging between the speakers with mid and tweet inset, but it's obviously up to you here. Objective measurements don't use polar diagrams any more and the Stereophile 'waterfall' plots I often find confusing. These days, testing is computerised with arrays of mics able to rotate in almost all directions around a stationary speaker (not sure, but the 'Spinorama' word comes up a lot these days) but how we on the outside would be able to properly decode the data I don't know. My IMF Compacts have the EMI cone tweeter on the top left (not mirror imaged) and the Elac doped-cone mid (same as macca's TLS50's) on the mid right - picclick.fr/IMF-Compact-Hifi-Stereo-Bookshelf-Speakers-3-Way-133015602372.htmlwww.ebay.fr/itm/133015602372Rubber main driver surrounds not original in the pics as they were foam in mine and Wembley Loudspeakers replaced them for me with the correct spec. - so *technically,* it's impossible to optimise in a very near field position. In practise it's fine subjectively and i don't have them set up properly anyway. The supplied polar diagram as printed in the brochure I have shows quite definitely the compromise in having an offset tweeter but I don't have a pic account to post and link to. All a load of bollox I suspect, so apologies for getting anal about it!

I've not seen mine for over thirty years, but had I been disagreeing with the rear labels I'm sure I'd have remembered. Mind you, I always thought 'mine' had 4mm sockets on the back, so there ya go... I can't even remember how long I had them for - I think it was ten months before the first pair of ES14's came along (original ones in walnut with cast ally tweeter plates and optimised for free space use).

You won't get any joy with those NS's. You'd be better off flogging them to me.

I suspect they are pretty good. I do too. Trying to contact the seller of a pair who lives one road away. Typically, no answer lol

Tannoy Cheviot 2's for me Nicely load out system with plenty of space for the speakers to breathe.

Cheers
Its quite an odd room. Its an open plan kitchen/lounge/diner about 25' x 35' maximum. There is a pillar in the middle that divides it. the back half of the room is the kitchen, the front left is the TV/hifi with two 3 seat sofas that close it off from the rest of the room, the front right is the dining table. All bar the dining area is a flat ceiling at about 8ft, the dining area is a vault ceiling that goes up to about 12' with 3 skylights.
The acoustics are odd. By the speakers its quite bassy. But where we sit facing the TV there is a suck-out, so I have a Wharfedale sub in the system to fill out the bass at the listening position. But if you walk around you can hear the bass level going up and down - standing near the listening sofa its much more bassy...
But yes we have plenty of space, and the speakers fill the room pretty well

Bastanis open baffles for me. Not for everyone but I like them. I liked them at Nebo. Shame we didnt have the TT playing at its best when we put on the room-clearing Bach Organ Tocatta... I wanted to hear those 18" drivers shake me properly. Its quite an experience at high volumes when the big pipes kick in... Another time

After chopping and changing for a few years I’ve had these Dynaudio Contour s3.4’s for about three years now. They are quite big coming up to my armpit (I’m 5’ 10”) and shouldn’t work in my 17m sq living room but they do. Excellent bass and Mid but the tweeters are the star for me.
