White paint can discolour and chip - ugh! My Dual 1229 had the deluxe white plinth with flip-down front and it was my regret I didn't choose the teak one instead... I 'lent' it to a pal who 'lent it' to his son, who subsequently separated from his lady whom I didn't know and emigrated, leaving all his 'stuff' behind including the stereo gear Good old deck that if properly serviced. if not, tonearm linkage bits get broken and I dare say the thing was junked...

The only white hifi I've owned was a pair of headphones from Dixons, mid-'70s. They were probably rubbish, but I knew no better in those days and used them a lot. No idea what happened to them. I may have given them to my brother.

While were on it. I have done a bit of reading, Thur does not seem to be any info what so ever regarding the Wharfdale 'Denton 1' Speakers. What i have found out is they could possibly be made from white Polycarb Plastic which suits me better than paint & also this is where the confusion first surfaced with me. As the Early 'Denton' & 'Denton 2' were very old fashioned Teaky cabinets. the '1' apparently stands for using a single full range unit, the other 'Denton' did not... The fully range theory is further backed up by the single circular cut out in the grill board i can feel behind the cloth..

Probably the Chevin driver. Possible Geoff the 'Chevin XP2' cabinets were about the same dimensions as these. The production date is about the same.. If so its a possibility that those units were made by Leak. tbh i cannot think of another Wharf Full range unit this size for that time

Probably the Chevin driver. Ok more info come to light. Found a small picture of a Brochure with them on the front with a pair of what looks like the 'Denton XP' & maybe 'Glendale XP' . Which makes it more possible they do indeed use the 'Chevin XP' full range unit. Gotta be it was the smallest one they made & ofc no Crossover board.. Im gonna have a stab in the dark at around circa 1974

Ok managed to get an amp that will fit the bill with the Whardales. Good sounding amps from 1973 & loads of sliders.. Ive got the schematic & service data already. Ill go thru it, re cap it, check all the transistors & resistors, general service on everything else.. Should be here mid week..

Honestly I do not see the attraction of this golden age of Hi- Fi malarkey, the average stuff is below average sound wise to modern kit. And the high end kit is still zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz average. All my modern amps even the cheap Chinese ones make my vintage ones sound like crap. They look good but do not be fooled they do not sound good.

Please remember the 5th of November gunpowder, treason and plot. An excellent time to add that crap sounding old kit to the bonfire alpng with the Guy.
Unfortunately no longer celebrated here, we did have a lot of fun and made a lot of mischief, and malicious damage to the letter boxes in the neighbourhood on Guy Fawkes nite in our misspent youth.

Nostalgia is for dreamers, and do not ever presume I sit and look at my Hi-Fi, I play the balls off the thing every day. Just a question is not your nostalgia fetish for the most part a visual one.

Unfortunately no longer celebrated here, we did have a lot of fun and made a lot of mischief, and malicious damage to the letter boxes in the neighbourhood on Guy Fawkes nite in our misspent youth. Reminds me of that old schoolboy dodge of putting loads of dog turds in a big paper bag, twisting the top up, plonking it on some old boy's doorstep, setting fire to the top and ringing the doorbell and running off. He'd open the door in his carpet slippers, see the flames and try to stamp it out, with the inevitable resulting mess!
