Couldn’t you just stick them on an open baffle? You could, but there's no predicting the results. Plus decent ones would need to be pretty large.

You know geoff, it could be a lot of fun. I like the look of the drivers and they seem to have a decent cabinet drawing to go with it. I'll have a chat with my carpenter friend and see what price id be looking at for his help. As you have done a boat load on speakers, what material would you build the cabs out of?Depends. If cost isn't an issue, I'd favour birch ply, but there's not much wrong with MDF or HDF, some even swear by good old chipboard. At least with decent birch ply, you can just stain/lacquer it to get a nice appearance. Chipboard has to be veneered or laminated, but that give good constrained layer benefits. First instinct was MDF but the ease of finishing the Birch Ply may be worth the extra nuggets. 18mm? Bigger?

Anyway, 18mm should be fine, with some judicial bracing.

Haha, yes they do appeal and I bought the last speakers you advised me on which have lated longer than EVERY other component. I may do this one. Very tempting. 6.5 inches ain't no good to anyone Geoff lmao

Here the drawing. I can't see a thickness for the cabinet material.

No, thickness not shown.
Those boxes are pretty deep, could be awkward. You can change the dimensions if it suits, as long as the volume stays the same and the port area and depth remain the same too.

I don't know. My pal in London has mice in his flat, that looks like the ideal solution. - Cats in the speakers.

No tool needed. just juggle the proportions about as you like. Just don't make it tall or narrow and maintain the internal volume, port area and depth. Calculations are only needed if for instance you want a smaller box or port.

No you won't. You could for instance, keep the cabinet the same as it is in dimensions and just have the driver and port on the side, making that the front. That gives you a wider box which is shallower, but still deep enough.

Every speaker I’ve owned has been better raised up.

Here the drawing. I can't see a thickness for the cabinet material. If you look at the “port” the internal dimensions are 50mm less than the outer walls, so the design is suggesting 25mm thick walls. If rearranging the h/w/d you will need to calculate internal volume.

I can't see how it's suggesting that. Please explain!!

I make internal dimensions 30 wide, 40.6 deep and 84.1 high.
You use the same volume with keeping 30 width, reducing depth by 50mm to 35.6 and increasing height to 95.9
I think.....

Look at the front-on shot. Look at the bottom where the port/hole is. It shows a port width of 300 and external walls of 350 boy names ending in n sound

I see what you're saying but it could be 18mm or 20mm. Nope, I get it. Well done Westie!

The bloke that used to do the Terminator arm and turntable, this is his final speaker rig. Looks pretty simple:

^^^^^^^^ 75cm thick cabinet, the Doc would like that, now they would be heavy. Westie will have to do his internal volume calculations again.

If you want a proper hi-fi speaker forget single driver options. Sure they will make a pleasant enough sound but it isn't enough. Not for me anyway. if they really worked as well as the proponents suggest then everyone would be using them. One driver, no crossover, just knock up the box and you're away.
The reality is they're a massive compromise.

I got mine cheap (£425), I think usually you're looking at around twice that.

I thought your Focals new were about £3k, not saying you would pay that, but £425 is ridiculously cheap.

if I blow the tweeters they are £300 each to replace!
The newest version of the speakers is £5000 retail. I think they have the Berylium tweeters though. I'm slumming it with titanium.
I was lucky to get them at that price but they hung around for a while on AoS with no interest. No-one wants Focals because they're 'bright and harsh'.
