Have you tried vinyl 😂 Not for a while, but my TT should be back in the next few weeks. I just need a cartridge 🤣 I've got a 20hr AT540ML + unused spare stylus (came with a tt I bought) or an 80hr Benz Ace SH here doing nothing, if either are of interest?

I spent a few hours doing some cable comparisons today and decided nothing is quite doing it for me. I got fed up, put the silver Coax on the Kenwood x9010 and popped a CD on. Listened to the whole thing and enjoyed every second of it. I think it's time to get serious about CD and knock this streaming/file based music on the head. Get a wadia off Tony 😉

Get a top notch cart on the end of the arm, and do not lose sleep worrying about stylus wear, replacing etc - life is too short. Been there and it is a total none issue. Key is alternate between he vinyl and a source you genuinely love, pretty much same, in my case it's my cdp, the Pioneer PD91, love the thing, looks, importantly sound everything, musical as heck, analogue sounding - excellent, so much so my vinyl and Cadenza Black FGS, doesn't get hammered, limited use, that's what the alternating does, especially if cd is good too. I find I reach for the cd first, it's that good and satisfying, which I never thought would ever happen. When it gets like that, you're enjoying the music and your system to the fullest which is how it surely should be.

I've been blessed in that I've not done that much box swapping. I've made a few errors along the way but by and large have always had a system (or three) which has left me wanting to seek out more and more vinyl and exploring the stories behind the recordings. I sometimes have more fun researching and learning about the recording than listening (the ultimate in stylus preservation) My current fetish is exploring old MM carts with top of the range JICO stylii. A Shure M55E with JICO N44-7 SAS/R is about as good a MM cart combo as I have ever heard. I'm now into my 3rd hour of picking random stuff from the collection and listening, no fatigue, just addicition to the grooves.

I have sold the X50D....it's posted and gone.
Over the last few days especially i have been finding aspects of CD replay via the Kenwood x9010 that are unrivalled to my ears Vs any transport i have here at the moment. Other CDT's or USB from the PC etc, even the X50D was behind IMO.
The golden combination here is the Monosaudio silver Coax and WBT plugs into the Topping D70S, fed by the Ken. It's simply superb, and although i do expect to pick up a Denafrips Avatar from Alixpress, i find myself in no rush to do so. Actually, i am concerned it won't better it!
The only downside is that i don't have some of my favourite albums on CD. I'll sort that out though.

I've been a busy boy.... Its distinctly amateurish, and very much a representation of someone who hasn't done much woodworking, but I am very pleased with it. £165 in 18mm ply and a few tools for the job. I used the legs off and Apollo HiFi rack and voila! A new rack.

Very good Oli. It doesn't matter if it doesn't look like something that costs upwards of £10,000. The fact that you have built it yourself is the main thing. I (and probably many others) couldn't manage to do what you have done. I hope the rack "sounds" good and that it is solid. The "mini" Vaders are looking good too. Have they pretty much settled/run-in now?

No shame in building your own racks. I built mine a few years ago and have no intentions of buying anything else. I've gone down the route of 18mm ply before but then changed to 25mm bamboo which to my ears sounded better. Looks good what you built.

I may tidy it up a touch over the few weeks. The Mini's are killing it on a daily basis. I am SO impressed by them every time i listen, it us just a joy to own them and have them here. Probably something similar to your feelings towards the Vaders?

Thanks I didn't have the budget for bamboo when i bought the ply, and didn't feel particularly confident in my ability to get it done with any finesse so buying bamboo was never in my thoughts. I did have a wild moment of considering Permali, but the cost was ridiculous. Maybe once i have gained some skills i'll have a think about it again. For now, it's a nice thing to have done.

They look excellent too, and really suit our room.

In all honesty mate Bamboo is super easy to work with, just like ply! It smells a bit when cutting and drilling holes but that's no big thing.

I really ought to pursue something similar You can see exactly how this would work with my IKEA storage for vinyl with my Ektas. (And the floor and room etc)

Great idea. I’ll pop into our local merchants and see what they’ve got. Sounds like a plan. Thank you. I may also revisit a laminate on the sp10 plinth.
