The X50D sounds technically more articulate and detail oriented, which depending on what cable you use, can be tweaked finely. The LPSU we fitted into my last X50D made significant difference to texture and timbre, so if I can keep the detail and technical proficiency of the X50D and uncover some texture, I'll be very happy. Yes... unless you decide to stay with just the spinner! The X9010 is a bit of a monster. It's definitely not got the LF articulation of the X50D, but it does sound far more natural. We're splitting hairs, but these speakers are revealing minutiae that needs adhering to! Just found one for 1000+ from HOMCOM...that should do. ...Oh, I thought you meant £1000.

For the last few days i have been extensively comparing CD rips of CDs i have done on the Nova X50D against the CD i ripped being played via the Kenwood X9010. Ever since Macca brought his TEAC CDT over last year i have been battling the urge to drop file based/streaming audio in favour of physical media once again. The overwhelming feeling i have been left with is that CD is superior in many ways. The main one being realism. I can't think for what reason this would be, or why it should be any different, but time and time again i am left physically more engaged by the CD version than the CD rip of the same disk. The big turning point happened today when listening to Radiohead - Amnesia for the first time ever. I listened on CD first, and i was taken on a sensory stimulating journey through a very technical album. Listened again with the the CDrip...not bothered at all. So i tried the same again with Radiohead - Kid A...Rip first, CD second. I wasn't really fully engaged until i got to CD, then i was hooked. I am going to try a LPSU in the X50D and see if that makes any difference to proceedings. However, i am building a CD library in my garage regardless of the outcome. I have a megaton of CDs, the magnitude of which didn't become clear until i cleared out my old grow room earlier, and WOW...I am going to need some serious shelving. If anyone has any shelving recommendations, i would be keen to hear them! This is available on Ebay. It is supposed to have a capacity of 1,080 CD's. We have a very similar (if not exactly the same) unit. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374921002619?itmmeta=01HV1T1FZBZ84THRDGD2VMDJZ0&hash=item574b087e7b:g:fpUAAOSw5tdk-eVV&itmprp=enIf you do go for open-front storage, you could think about putting some netting or thin material over the front.

Shame about the cancelled rack, that was certainly at a good price. You could try advanced on ebay and set for 25 miles from your postcode, something 2nd hand might show up.

Sorry Oli, I couldn't help myself. Your cd rack still looks good, pleased to see you haven't started placing cd's at the bottom, could damage your back.

I still have one huge box full of CDs to rehouse, but I am now running VERY low on space. However, I have loads of shelf space back in the garage! 😊 Next job is tidy the garage out.

How many are there? Rough calculation about 1000 give or take 100 or so?

How many are there? Rough calculation about 1000 give or take 100 or so? Yeah, so far. I reckon there is at least another 300-400 in the box too. In fairness, I won't keep them all. Around 400-500 came from my cousin who is no longer with us. He had a really wild variation on music and to be honest some of it will never get a second play. Some are from stevew who was clearing out ready to sell up. The trouble was trying to navigate the collection in boxes was totally impossible. Now they are in the rack, I can spend time selecting CDs and giving them a listen. I've decided once I have listened to one, if I didn't like it, it will go in a charity box. Once that box is full...I'll charity shop it. Once some space appears in the rack, I'll fill it with discs from the big box...same process applies. Eventually I'll be left with CDs I want and charity shops might make a few bob from things I don't want.

It’s been cathartic to stop worrying about the storage requirements for cd. However I will admit that I do occasionally miss that physical process of scanning cds to find something to listen to.

When will you find the time to listen vinyl?

I'm so last decade, I still tend to think that if I've got it on a hard drive I still need the physical CD to prove I have the rights to it! vs. Napster and Limewire.

As many of you know I volunteer in my local charity shop pricing vinyl and CD for sale. Value of CDs is rocketing, It is not unusual to get £10+ for valuable CDs, which makes a huge difference for the charity. Please keep donating unlisted to CDs as folk like me can recycle them on to new owners for them to enjoy and at the same time we make good money for our chosen charities
