I would certainly like an SP10 but it's more than I want to spend for a 2nd/3rd source.

That's a beauty Nick, I really wanted to try a Kenwood KD990 or one of it's siblings, only purchased the Techie since it was at a good price.

Yes, the sony tts-8000 is the heavyweight champion. No Turntable has done anything that this can't do but this does things others just haven't. The only contender I haven't heard is a DP80. I don't care about that though. The sony tts-8000 is king here.

It's a beauty Jamie, would love to hear it sometime, unfortunately Brighton is a long way from Grimsby. I lusted after your Pioneer PL590, I was on holiday at the time you sold it otherwise I am sure I would have at least asked what the price was. There is a Technics 1200GR on ebay at present and I have been looking at a Consonance Wax Engine, also on ebay, which the designer of Well Tempered has had some input. Will have to get the SL150 up for sale but I am going to see how the RB600 compares to the AO RB250 which is on the PT at present.

Then for me, it's a P8 or AceSpace and for others, a more modern techie!? The SL150mk2 is a pretty solid structure and the drive is basically flawless technically. I can't remember if the mains transformer is under the platter as on the 1210mk2 series or under the deck plate as on the 150mk1. If you were to persevere, different (wooden?) arm-board materials may help and as the RB arms are not universal in their siting requirements (I thought the latest three screw fixings may be a little better), a different arm may well be the answer. The SL150's were kinda optimised for the SME 3009, so the slight extra zing in these arms as standard may well suit the deck better than a less resonant arm... I kind of hoped an Acromat would have helped and sorry that it didn't. Maybe different siting (spikes?) on a solid granite type support may help? Not sure you'd want the fuss and bother though and it's so long ago since I sold these (forty three years or so) it's difficult to say with certainty. The PT belt drive was pretty good and didn't over-stress the belt as I recall. As long as the bearing is ok, the platter clean and belt not stretched lop-sided (if you see what I mean) to cause added wow, a sub 2g tracker should be just fine. Is the PT motor supply behaving? The caps on the board may well be ok, but a fair bit of UK supplied kit right into the 90's seemed to run the electrolytics hard and failures are common, even on twenty five year old stuff I gather. By the way, Rega supply a strobe kit with battery powered reference lamp. It's a doddle to use and less finicky than the 300hz Linn one, which shows the tiniest and totally inaudible error. Sorry Dave, missed this post yesterday, you could be right regarding spikes, I use wooden cones on the 4 corners of the plinth on my PT. The SL150 does have the wooden armboard, which is very deep, Westie gave me a Rega retaining nut with a small sleeve which was needed since the arm pillar only just showed at the bottom of the arm board. Hope you can understand that. The PT is working fine, the only thing is the armboard, I think glued to the sub-chassis, you may remember a thread on HFS I started.

Don't forget its ancestor. Belt drive or not, the TTS3000 comfortably saw off the Garrard 401, G99 and TD124 in an old review I still wish I had (there was a recommendation for reducing drive noise through the stylus on the Lenco and I wish I had it to scan, as when I make recommendations like this, I have to justify every word and supply incontrovertible proof as 'nobody' believes me). The shame is that the UK market has never fully supported older Top End stuff like this. The SP10 went into broadcast and archiving? applications so there's a fair stock of them but other good top domestic decks like the 8000 hardly gathered much attention outside of Japan and possibly the US.

yeah i believe you..i bet it would wipe the ass of that over engineered sme model 10. i knew years ago that technics decks were superb after a mates 1200 destroyed my then lp12 ekos arkiv..
