That's the problem, the armboard is too thick. I will have to cut a piece off the bottom, and maybe use something like washers in the corners to bring it back to its original depth, unless anyone's got a better suggestion. Make a new one altogether. Don't ruin the original It's made of rosewood so I don't think an original armboard, you can see a photo in the link on the 1st post. I did not want to go to the expense of having a new armboard made, then deciding to change the arm and another armboard built.

Beautiful looking arm, I've turned a funny shade of green.

Nice arm. I've heard this one and the £2.5k one. Can't remember the model number. Do nothing wrong at all.

I dunno. SME make some giant killer arms yet the UK fraternity all but ignores them. If the one piece IV and V don't appeal, the 309 is a gem and just maybe, the detachable shell (not wiring though) helps with some decks. I mentioned the M2-9. Not the most attractive looking arm, but I bet it's better than most Jelco types out there and even after the take-over price increase, it's still not silly money. If you MUST use the Sh#t old 'SME style' detachable shell model, Jelco have new arms at around a grand that look impressively made and not 'Linn' 9" length rather than 10" as many old jap arms were. Ammonite acoustics import them and also still do the beefed up bases for the previous cheaper models I gather. Lastly, The recently introduced Jelco derived Linn Majik tonearm (under £600 I think) should be good for most of us I reckon. Got to be better than a Sh#t used by everybody in its life 774!!!!

The Sl150 is just to try a dd turntable Dave, purchased for just over £200. I certainly don't want to spend another £500-2000, that is why I just wanted to swop over my Rega. If I could have afforded more I would have gone the Kenwood 990 route, but these are going for £800-1200.

Set it up right and it'll sound very nice.

I did not want to go to the expense of having a new armboard made, then deciding to change the arm and another armboard built. I've just looked at photos of the Sl150 and many do have the same arm board I do, so you could be right. I've looked at a Rega one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rega-RB250-RB300-Armboard-Plate-for-Technics-SL-150-SL-1500-SL-120-SL-120MK2/162756678077?hash=item25e50dd1bd:g:heQAAMXQuTNTLn6D and this one appears to be 2 plates both 3mm thick. My arm board is 16mm thick so how am I supposed to fit a new one and keep the correct height for the arm to be level with the platter? Hope someone can help.

The Techie is a superb drive and at least as good as it's 1210 descendent - and FAR better looking and I believe more solidly made as well, but I haven't compared them directly! in th emeantime, i should try my 150mk1 again, which could sound amazing properly sited and matted!
I can't remember how we did it, but I'm sure the adaptor plate (SME to Rega hole) was often used to mount the R200 on with maybe one or two deep washers to allow the fixing nut to anchor it, the shebang passing through a typical SME tonearm 'slot.' Might be worth asking Michell about under-arm washers (not sure of Rega still make them). I seem to remember the SME cut board was a nice wooden type, but this is forty years of memories now on a product only available for a year or so (the 1210 family came out in '78 or so I remember but was ignored here I believe).

First problem of the day, the armboard on the tt is too deep for the Rega pillar, so unable to get the retaining nut on. Looks like I will have to get a piece cut off the bottom. You need a locknut with an extension collar. I have one if you need it. Just pop me an address and it’s yours.

I made a successful bid last night on a Rega RB600 and have this morning purchased a Sound Supports, SME - Rega adaptor plate mentioned earlier in the thread. There is a Jelco SA 750D for sale on another forum for a similar price and am hoping I have made the correct decision with the Rega.

Dunno, I sold it unused after it sat there looking pretty for a few months! I’d fancy another though if the price was good.

The SL150 has just arrived and is in better condition than I could have hoped for. All I have done is plug in and press start button, the platter revolves with no problem that I can see. Next step is to put my Rega arm on, maybe later today or tomorrow, and I will keep you updated. If you need something suitable, Soundsupports do a Rega to SME mounting plate that provides correct geometry. www.soundsupports.com/rega-deptThanks Geoff. I’ve actually bought one of these before fir an SME cutout Xerxes, but I had forgot about them. I’ve just bought another for my SME cutout TransRotor, Saved me £25 over an Origin Live Jonnie.

The SME to Rega adaptor plate has arrived, but disappointingly the Rega arm is not here yet. The seller has admitted it he did not post until yesterday. Will update in the near future.

I got my Rega SME adaptor too. I decided to just use it as a template and make a new armboard by drilling a 10mm acrylic circle using a Forstner bit. It looks great so I have a spare Rega SME plate. I’m sure it will come in handy someday.

Just received a message from the seller of the Rega, he's not posting until tomorrow, admitting he's just packaged it up. The purchase went through one week ago and he knew it had been sold at least one week before that since he'd had bids on it. Some sellers?

Not great and he won’t last long on EBay if he delays more than a day or two. Still, it should be a nice arm in the flesh. It’ll be interesting to see how you get on with a DD. I found the PS6750 very close to my Xerxes sonically, as long as I ditched the gel mat. Although I couldn’t detect it in AB comparisons with the same cartridge, It just seemed to lack soul and the desire to listen wasn’t there. Tbh I’m still not entirely sure whether there was psychology at play rather than sonics.
IMO you’ve done the right thing in getting a deck to compare with.

Received another message from the seller apologising, he has had a knee op (so cannot drive) and then a severe cold. If this is true I can forgive him.

I often put stuff up for sale just after I've had a knee operation and can't get out of the house to post it.

Well the arm finally arrived this morning, I've fitted it on the SL150 and we've got music. Initial impressions, it's very good.

I haven't had chance to give this tt a listen, it is in our 2nd system and I've just been enjoying Tidal in the main system. I will get round to it and also a friend is coming round to hopefully show me how to post photos, I've signed up with Tinypic.

For me, the attraction of tinypic is that you don't have to sign up to use it.

Well I've finally had chance to listen to the SL150, giving Eleanor McEvoy a spin first, maybe lacking a little air compared to the PT. Next up, Tangerine Dream, this sounded amazing, much preferred to the PT. Finally Paul Simon Gracelands, this was a closer call so we'll call it a dead heat. I will be keeping the Technics simply because it's so solid and no faffing with the suspension like the PT. Now do I want to experiment with TT mats and replace the rubber one that's on there?

Keep the rubber one and add another thin one to it is my suggestion. people wanked on and on about the 1210 platter ringing (despite a rubbery layer bonded underneath apparently) but totally forgot that's what the effin' rubber mat was for as well as supporting the record.
Failing that, an NAS Spacemat may work as long as it doesn't 'darken' the tone too much.
Just use your techie sans lid, site it carefully to prevent mid bass colouration and maybe try a cork (cheap) or Achromat perhaps on top of the existing one. I'm a fan of the Ringmat (to hell with the expense) but not sure how this could be successfully used here.
