Ive been on forums since they very first appeared & i know full well one of the most dangerous sections that cause argument & crap is off topic areas. Why owners create them is beyond me..
No one really gives a crap about any one else or their life & problems. The only reason people come together on a forum is for a similar interest & ofc free information & help..

Hi-Fi is one of the most selfish hobbies on this planet. Same with cars and most other hobbies.

All in your humble opinion, of course.
But you forgot them that join forums to which they have no interest in, as to the subject of interest.
As me Granny used to say though, It takes all sorts to make a world; nutters included.
Can't comment on high-end stores, as I've never ventured into one.

Well, your on hi-fi forums and periodically, plenty of them. Using plenty of names! Hifi forums seem to be particularly prone to navel-gazing 'wot's it all abaht?' type discussions. What's especially funny is seeing people on a hi-fi forum telling everyone what a pile of shite hifi is. If that's your opinion (which of course you're welcome to) why not find another interest/hobby and stfu about something in which you have no interest?

Anywhere you work there's always one bloke who is always going on about how he hates the job and hates the company but he's been there twenty-odd years and shows no signs of leaving.

There was a bloke like that in my last place of work. He was a gloomy sod, and used to tell us every day how he couldn't wait until he retired. Then he did retire, only to return a few months later working part-time because he was bored at home!

I struggle with anyone who makes shitty or offensive comments about anything Mental Health related, this is primarily because I have suffered from Anxiety and Depression of some sort or other throughout my entire life, and unless you have experienced it, you have no clue or right to judge someone about it.

I made up my mind that it's easier to control my own reaction to what people write, rather than try to control what others write. I wouldn't attach any credibility or importance to a post about mental health (or anything) if the poster clearly does not have a clue. We all have mental health, we all have physical health. Some of us are very lucky, some of us are very unlucky, the rest of us fall somewhere in between. It's a symptom of being human, not what defines us as individuals...

if you followed this to its logical conclusion no-one could ever make a joke about anything for fear of 'offending' someone whatever it is about. If I make a joke about Volvo drivers will some Volvo owner make a complaint? You'll always get at least one so does this mean Volvo drivers are out of bounds now?
What an awful world it will be where we can't take the piss out of anything. And some people actually want that!
Like most people if I actually want to offend someone I won't leave it in any doubt. Someone who is offended tangentially by what I say, or worse, offended on behalf of some other group they don't even belong to, can keep their offendedness to themselves because I don't care. In fact I'm more likely to do it again just to piss them off.

Well Martin, I wasn't arguing about people taking the piss, there is a difference between taking the piss and then taking things too far, a lot of people, myself included a lot of the time bounce over that barrier too often. This world has become too PC, but equally, we have been too quick in the past to criticise people for things we know little or nothing about.

My point is that we are all aware that there are a million things that are 'serious' including mental health and Volvo drivers but that doesn't mean its wrong to joke about them or that anyone should 'take offense' at those jokes. It's not the same as being personally offensive, is what I am saying.
