Where forums go wrong

I have to say there’s more than a grain of truth in what Rudi said. Loads of hifi folk are eccentric to say the least, and I include myself in that.

I didn’t see any offence in what he wrote tbh, I took it as an observation of the nuttiness of this hobby. No malice in it AFAIC. It’s essentilaly the same observation that Savvy makes on Foo Fight. If there wasn’t so much comedy material, there would be no room for such a blog.

I have a few OCD tendencies, but I’m not offended at all. I like my foibles and I accept being different as a gift,

I'm a messy, lazy fucker, saved from poverty only by my quick wits, occasional flash of intelligence, and good luck. But I am definitely not eccentric.

It's funny about jokes. When I was a nipper at primary school, there were basically no taboo areas for humour. We told jokes about concentration camps, even though the war had only ended twenty years previously, and most of our fathers had fought in it. Same with jokes about mental or physical disabilities, people with different coloured skins or from any foreign country, including Scotland and Wales. This carried through to the early years of secondary school, then just stopped. We didn't become PC overnight, we just stopped telling jokes.

I just saw it as a bit of a moronic gross generalisation and as such couldn't take any of it seriously.

Think "Oddball" poster here, and who INSTANTLY (for me, anyway) springs to mind?

Don't forget all the Biafran jokes, exploding space shuttle jokes, capsized RoRo ferry jokes etc etc. 

I'm terrible and make no excuse for it. I thought those people burning the model of Grenfall Tower on Bonfire Night was funny. And I thought people's outraged reactions to it even funnier. I'm not a complete bastard but I'm getting there, hope to be finished soon.

For me, forums ending up with “groupthink” is proabaly one area I dislike. Is that “going wrong” though?

My dislike is because it closes minds and you often get naysayers derided or driven out, Of course the upside could be like-minded folk finding a common goal and helping each other seek it.

I make this post with the caveat that I’m not opening the door tomdsisng other forum sir their members/owners.It wa smuts a general observation of something I’ve seen come and go over the years.

I try not to get offended easily on forums, and to be honest don't generally. But when it comes to people judging others over Mental Health or anything really, then I struggle to accept it as just banter, I also struggle to the point of getting exceedingly angry if anyone brings my family into an argument, that happens rarely but it has happened.

Banter is fine, but there is a fine line and most people, me included as said before bounce over that line a little too often.

never tell anyone anything about yourself (that's at all true) - that way they can't use it against you and anything they say that that might seem personal can then be only a coincidence.

I tell them on Snakeoil so much Bull Sh#t & lies its ultra funny when they use it against me..
