Part of my gear, set up briefly in the wrong room. I have mountains of stuff and will post more later. Can anybody accurately identify any of this gear?

It was a joke.
I reckon Tannoy Cheviots, some kind of Pioneer Cd player. No idea what the pre amp is but deffo early 1980s. No idea what the valve monoblocks are but the WAF on them is through the floor.

Trichord Research Digital Turntable CD transport, feeding a Monarchy Audio M22C DAC. No pre-amp as the DAC has a volume control and is driving the power amps, which are Modern Classic Tubes CT15 EL 34 monos. The speakers are Tannoy Cheviot Mk.II and don't employ the HPD driver, they have the 3128 unit as also seen in the even rarer Balmoral model. Superior to the HPD according to my ears.

Iโm trying to recall just what my last valve amp was. I bought an Eastern electric Minimax but it arrived damaged and got returned. Befire that I think it was an Audio Sterling Plus KT120 unlesss I have forgotten something I had after it. Itโs been about 3 years, which is quite a while without valves.

I'm going to move away from valves. I've had too many valve amps to recall. Currently having a lot of fun with this: Yes, it's the little seventeen quid Class D TPA3116 amp I bought recently. To me, It sounds bloody amazing and probably as good as any other amp I've ever tried. I'm still trying to get my head around that. It shouldn't be happening!!

That looks well cute. Those "ferk me" moments are priceless. How can this be happening etc etc. It will be quite an exercise in down sizing

I must admit I couldnโt live with one either, I had a Muse TA2021 chip amp a few years ago and it really rubbed me up the wrong way sonically. Even if it hadnt, I just shouldnโt have lived with something like that as an amp. Looks and build matter as much to me as sound.
That said, I have heard a chip amp driving big Klipsch on videos and itโs been fab. Iโd imagine efficient Tannoys need very little grunt.
This was mine, I did like the colour.

None of you have heard it though.
I don't care what equipment looks like or care what others think. I just use my ears and they tell me this little amp is a bit special. I may even buy the 100 wpc version.
For the peanuts cost you could try one. Little to lose is there?

Itโs probably more about the person and their own foibles than the amp. For me there has to be some build/aesthetic value/attraction, as well as a high degree of pride of ownership.
Doesnโt mean Iโm right or wrong. Just that I wouldnโt enjoy having one. Someone with a different set of values would like the compact size, bargain price and also perhaps the novelty of having something so non-hifi at the heart of their system. The important thing is that you like it and get pleasure from it.
Itโs certainly a lot nicer than that ยฃ5 DAC. That would be as welcome as an infestation of cockroaches in my home.

I should mention. There is a wait for the amp as it comes from China. Mine took about three weeks to arrive.

You've never seen one of these before (unless you saw it posted by me elsewhere). There were as far as I know only three brought into the UK for evaluation by the importer. I bought one and god knows what happened to the others. Of the many I've tried, it's the best SUT I've heard and I compared it to my Luxman AD8000/8020 which is rated by some as one of the finest. I sold the Luxman and kept this.

Cheers Geoff. I see that seller also has some boards (no case) that may or may not be the ones inside the product you linked to.

I've heard a few of these things and once you get over the surprise that they actually sound acceptable for the tiny size and the low price that's about it.
And none of them seem to be able to put out more than a couple of watts before they quite obviously start distorting. I know from experience that obvious ripping distortion doesn't seem to bother a lot of people (I've even had a couple of people try to tell me that the distortion is not the amp clipping but is actually on the recording!), but it bothers me.

Did you not look at the bench test then?

There's one with tone controls There are loads of TPA3116 amp variants. I specifically wanted the version that was bench tested and I would not consider one with tone controls, they are always a compromise of some sort and certainly aren't necessary in my system. I've used many Class D and Tripath amps and still have a few others, but none that sound like this TPA3116 unit. It's at least as lucid as the Monarchy Audio SM-70 and sounds pretty similar tonally.
