Hi all, Westie has a set of the SPOTFIRE cables. 1m in length. If you fancy having a listen, let me know either on here or via PM and I'll put a loan list together. Open to anyone who is a trusted member here. I'll also collate any non AoS feedback here. No obligation to buy, just a bit of feedback, including details of the cables you compare them against, is all I ask. i.imgur.com/wbW8AUq.jpg

Loanee review:
I've had two nights to listen to the Spotfire. I compared them with my Black Cat Neo Morpheus which retailed for around £200 new and run them between my DAC and preamp, so running a full line signal and therefore quicker to settle down.
They were remarkably close in performance.
From my notes:
Midrange detail was equal with both - highly focussed and projected sound, vivid detail, beautiful vocal quality. Liquid, non-harsh, musical, rhythmic.
Soundstage was as close as to make no difference - huge, extending outside of both speakers and depth well behind the plane of the speakers. The sound of the recording space was very easy to hear, and air movements easily discerned.
Sparkle - here I found the Black Cat very marginally superior, but it was a small difference. Detail in castanets, bells, blocks, triangles etc. just a touch more prominent.
Bass power and extension - here the Spotfire had just the slightest more foundation and tightness creating really excellent power in the music.
It's hard even determining the above, so close are they in their performance. I did go back to my Yannis for a baseline check, and they both easily outperform them.
In absolute terms they are very good cables capable of holding their own in a high-end system.
At £140 they are very good value indeed. Not sure about RRP of the Black Cat Neo Morpheus. Mine cost me £109 used. The Yannis were around £280 some years ago.

I've got 6 hours on mine now!
My impressions are more bass power and more 'obvious' in the top end, crisper if you like, so more 'hi-fi' than my other go to cable (NVA SSC). I know some people regard that as bad thing, I don't, I'm always looking for more hi-fi. I'm using a Sony SCB790QS SACD player at the moment as I'm having a bit of a cd player crisis. A player I had previously relegated for sounding too smooth and bland but these cables do liven it up a bit.
Just a question about the burn in. What changes am I supposed to hear as I go along? I've never ever noticed anything burn in before let alone a cable so I want to know what I'm allegedly looking for in advance please.

I'm reluctant to 'guide' your opinion in any way on what you hear or where the changes happen IMO so I will tell you what I noticed. I was listening to the system with the cables in. At around the 30hr mark, there was a definite change. I had a track on by Keb Mo and as I wish listening it sounded like someone had opened up the doors behind the speakers. There was a depth to the soundstage that emerged right before me. Obviously, I thought the cables were highlighting something in the track I hadn't heard before, like an effect. I was loving it. I replayed the track but instantly realised the depth was there at the begining of the track. I realised that the cables had just opened up. Critical listening also left me thinking the treble had 'eased' a little. Previous listening sounded like the treble was pronounced but it now sounded more natural. The whole soundstage opened up and the rigidness left the building. I was left with a feeling of fluidity and a natural presentation. Obviously, that's only my experience but others have commented on the same sort of thing with their purchased cables.

The LF is certainly there and well resolved and I think that gives it that bit of extra depth.
Just been listening to that US3 album, there's a bit of a call and response between two trumpets, one is right on the front and one is way back. I've not noticed it that apparent before; the distance between the two front to back in the soundstage. And there's a double bass on one track, I could hear the reverb tails on it. Had this album 25 years about not heard that before.
Not really listened to a wide variety yet though so only first impressions. But I am getting a really good sound tonight for whatever reason(s).

Mone were due today but the Post Office were their usual unreliable selves so it will likely be tomorrow.,Martin sent them on, so it’s just a case of waiting for the Red Menace to cough them up.
Thankfully I won’t need to worry about burn in on this pair. A TIS beater for a quarter of the price will be worth waiting for.

My only reservation is that the Sonneteer stuff seems almost immune to cable differences. If that turns out to be the case, I will try the other amps I have. I’m puzzled at why cables seem to have so little impact on Sonneteer, compared to everything else I’ve tried. Spotfire may be different. All the more impressive if it is,

I’ve been listening to Spotfire in my system pretty much all day. My system just doesn’t show cable differences to a great extent, but Spotfire is still better than what I have here. Differences aren’t huge in this system so I will be trying it with some of my other amps and speakers tomorrow and Monday,
My system sounds great with literally any cable, so i could live with any of the interconnects I have. Here’s what I have and how they stacked up today in my main system. It will be good to see how that fare in a more conventional setup.
Puresonic OCC cable 6/10. Sounded like there were instruments missing at times and just a bit too indistinct when compared to the best here. Rega Couple with Neutrik Profi plugs 7/10. I’d expected this to be as good as anything, but it just sounded a little too “dark” and slightly wooly to match the best today. DIY SSC clone. 9/10 Still love this cable. Airy, open and relaxing. Just shaded for definition by...... Neotech NEI-3004 cable. 9.5/10. Very close here. It’s pretty new so not even sure it’s run in, but it had better-defined bass and greater separation than the SSC clone albeit not quite as airy. Spotfire with KLE Harmony copper plugs. 10/10. Edged the Neotech on just feeling more “settled” but with a similar signature sound. Both of these are more “tightly wound” sonically than the SSC, which aided timing, but the Spotfire just seemed to let me relax more. Very subtle in this system though and I’m not sure I could pick it blind.
These early findings are tentative and based on a system that does it’s best to shrug off cable differences like none I’ve had before, I wasn’t going to set my thoughts down until I had tried other kit, but I feared I may lose the essence of today’s experiences if I didn’t get them down.
I think the lack of cable sensitivity is probably down to two things. One, you are effectively always off-axis with omnis, so it’s harder to pick out differences. Two, the Sonneteer stuff is as benign as you will find, with no foibles to exploit. Like an inert gas, they just don’t seem to “react” with other kit or cables.
Let’s see what the Claymore, Exposure X, Cubettes, Minstrels and Spicas tell me over the next couple of days.

Thanks for the early impressions.
Very interesting but not unexpected that your system isn't overly fussy with cables.
Looking forward to Mondays report!!
It's exciting 😉

Differences between cables are always either small or non-existent. How could they be otherwise? Okay so this is hi-fi and small differences do matter. Carry on

Some things matter loads. Some things matter slightly. Some things don't matter at all. IME lots of people spend all their attention and money on the stuff that matters slightly or not at all and pay no attention to what matters loads.

I was up very late last night because I was perplexed as to why the differences were so small. I’m sure the Duevels contribute too, but taking the Sonneteer out and replacing it with the Exposure was a game changer. It revealed a sizeable difference between the Rega Couple (which I know the Exposure likes) and the Spotfire. The Spotfire was tighter, more tuneful, snappier and had better bass.
I’ve been out since early on, but will put in more listening today and tomorrow with other kit.

I should add that I think there must be a technical reason why the Sonneteer is so un-fussy. I wonder if certain circuit designs are inherently more fussy than others. I did hear that valve amps are supposedly less fussy because they have a transformer in circuit, but I’ve no idea why transistor amps should differ.

I'm not sure about that because my cables journey all stemmed from a Valve amp which seemed to be very fussy. I've been swapping cables with a plethora of kit. The SPOTFIRE have been out on loan since February and been in all manner of systems and apart from maybe 2/3 people, they have all reported being able to hear a difference. Some have said slight and others have been left gobsmacked. Some kit appears to be less sensitive maybe? Who knows.

Just checking Bigman, you do make up balanced cables and would be able to do 2/3 mtrs.

I use Neutrik Gold plated XLRs for these cables as I believe they are very good. I sold a 1m pair of balanced cables yesterday. A 2m pair would be £150 + £7.50p&p A 3m pair would be £185 + £7.50p&p Just for reference There is a thread involving SPOTFIRE-ba (balanced) cables over on AoS. I'll copy the link and past here.

Nice link. I see Klotz was part of the comparison. To me, Spotfire makes Klotz sound like Sh#t. Anyone with a Klotz cable should try it. I’m still getting to the bottom of what it can do, but I already know enough to know I will never use Klotz again. Once you’ve heard the comparison, you can’t “unhear” it.

Surprised me too. I’ve had them a while, but they were so dull and thick sounding, I’ve been put right off. The Sonneteer probably won’t care though.

I haven't used them for ages. Sorry Macca, he's spot on in that regard. There are better low budget options too. Sommer carbokab and Mogami.

I don’t normally do A/B comparisons so it was quite a shock to me because I’d trusted them based on their flat-earth system performance many years ago. They are pleasant enough, but I have been shocked by how diffuse they are. As I said, I can’t “unhear” it now. Tbh I’m surprised that any cable fitted with Neutrik Profis can be so fuzzy. Maybe in other systems they perform differently.
