Interesting thread on Sonneteer. Seemingly tweaks aren’t easy to pull off. Lots of comments that echo my findings with Sonneteer too.

Yeah, I wouldn't mess with it if I were you.
Currently trawling through John Westlakes 1000 posts on diyaudio looking for juicy bits of information. Already found a good circuit he posted for the reference pins of dac and decoder chips. It replaces the usual capacitor on that pin. More complexity - worth it ? I don't know.

I’ve been reading the John Bau interview you gave me a link to. It’s made me wish I could meet the guy. It’s also given me a completely new “take” on measuring stuf. He’s not measuring conventionally, of course, but what a clever guy.

Yeah, his thread on diyaudio is proof of that. He was trying to perfect LM317/337 regulator circuits from looking at phase and impedance right across the audible range (and beyond). He said from listening tests that this brought huge musical gains in his setup. There was some scorn from other audio designers but he continued for many tens of pages perfecting the components and measuring technique. He wasn't looking at the traditional aspect of lowest noise out of the reg being best, in fact he totally ignored the levels of noise.
Then he went quiet and later in the thread there is a link to a US patent he had filed for and was awarded for a circuit he had obviously worked on using the results of the knowledge he gained during the thread. Clever indeed. I looked at his profile and although he has not posted there for ages it did say the last activity was day before yesterday, so he is still looking in at diyaudio.com/

I remember reading that his profession was “mathematician”. Someone whose brain can operate on that sort of level is like another species to me!

Bugger all happening here at the moment. Fixed a mate's cambridge audio amp with 2 new relays on the output. On one channel there was no output until the volume was increased and then it came in too loud. Saved him a fair few quid i reckon and that pleases me.
I have been so busy with the two bands i am in and practicing rudiments etc i have not really had any inclination to do any diy audio stuff. Soon, hopefully i will get some done.

Are your speakers finished in terms of sonics, Stu? Yeah but no but yeah but...... I like them very much but when i build the final version the cabinet material is changing to baltic birch ply and the shape of it will be different. It will likely change the sound slightly - i hope i can live with it. My steel lined marantz imperial 7 cabs are gonna get used as a speaker for my electronic drum kit that i have in the house. An avondale amp board will do the duties there - will be the best sounding drum amp ever. Just need to look at what size of signal the drum module puts out. Dont want to overload the amp,
