The Vaders have been been a popular speaker! I have made more Vaders than anything else and they are the largest and priciest option. There is a reason for this this... They do something really special - hard to explain, but if you've heard them, you know what I mean . www.troelsgravesen.dk/SEAS-NEXTEL-2F.htmTroels has now designed the NEXTEL 2F - essentially a smaller version of the CNO4s. They still have the exceptional SEAS Crescendo tweeter and SEAS Nextel W18 mid/bass driver. They will produce the same sublime mid/bass and treble and will sound extremely similar to the Vaders in a small/medium room. They won't fill a large room like the CNO4/Vaders do, but they'll still be a compelling listen. The low and mid bass is dealt with by a 10" Faital Pro driver, this can be passive or active with room tuning. The Troels cabinet design is essentially a truncated pyramid. I have tweaked the design a little and added some 'Avalon-esque' bevel/chamfers to the lower front baffle. This helps to slim the speaker and softens the look. It also pays homage to the Vader design. This is without lower bevels (Ektas for scale): And this is with the Bevels: More build info to follow very soon, watch this space.

Look great, but is it me or does the front now look like a coffin?? Yep, a smaller version of the original coffins. These ones are a budget version for a more bijou resting place. Same quality and all the same signature attributes of the original coffins, but suitable for a smaller graveyard.

Are these finished yet? 😂😂😂 You can have em now if you want. They're quite basic atm - about half the parts are roughly hewn.

Creating the 'Coffin' Bevels on the front... Sorry, slimming and sexy facets on the front corner has been a challenge. I wanted the bevels to completely comprise the plies and laminations of the Birch ply wood. This was achieved by creating the front baffle from 5 layers of 18mm ply. It is 5 layers thick at the base and then tapers to 2 layers thick for the majority of the upper section. Here is a sectional view: I began by fabricating the side cheeks, rear panel, top panel, base and internal braces. This is those parts in a 'dry' test fit:

Lots has happened over the last few days... Driver holes and Hypex holes were routed. The main cabinets (excluding the fronts) were glued and clamped: The enclosures were lined with damping and felt. The lower enclosures have 12mm mdf lining plus 8mm felt. The upper enclosures have 4mm bitumen damping and 8mm felt: Once fully lined, the complex front baffles were bonded on: Here are the fully glued cabibets. Now it's time for (lots of) sanding and lacquering.

Jason, think your adaptation of Troels design is just great. Breaking up that acreage at the front of the speakers by adding bevels gives a wonderful aesthetic. Well done.

I wish that I had a bigger room. Great job Jason. Is your room smaller than Oli's? I am confident these will work in Oli's room, certainly better than a fully passive speaker.
