They are '710'/'720'/'730' were all great speakers. Still prefer the white Baffle board models..

I was not convinced with the paddles as they were not actually Paddles compared to the SME '3009' They were noting but bent rod!

Could be because the guy i sold it to live not a million miles from there. This must have been about 26 years ago.

Thanks, as you might have guessed, I’d seen it. A little tempted but the last two to sell on EBay went for £899. That’s my price. I’d also be needing a silver facia which would add another £50 to the bill. I really think I’d prefer a second Campion. That’s all an Orton essentially is. The looks of the Orton are still a bit of an issue for me. The “one eyed monster with a grin” isn’t a pleasing look.

They struggled to sell for £400-450 a while back. It’s a vile looking thing inside and out, I see no benefit in this “class A” nonsense either, so it holds no attraction for me.

There's definitely 'something' about a nice Class A solid state amp. Never been quite able to put a finger on what it is, maybe it's a sort of subliminal coherence? It always tickles me when you start listening to one after switching on and it just sounds 'OK' initially and about ten minutes later, as it warms, the magic starts and the whole thing opens up and begins sounding wonderful. They may get hot and use a lot of juice, but to me, it's the perfect amp design. Pure signal, not joined up bits of signal.

It's not just the class A bit that makes the difference and that's the key. You can get class A amps that are not so good. I've got 4 class A amps at the moment and they all sound different (although one is a valve amp which might explain that).

I’ve had a good few Class A amps but I haven’t heard anything consistent relating to any of them. I think it’s a myth based on my own experience up to now. That’s not to say I haven’t heard good sounding Class A amps though.

I'm no electronics expert. But 'Class A' is used as a good marketing tool.

Never trusted em either. Get too hot for my liking + the transistors are running all the time.

The Westie is great but the mug is a nasty colour. I’d fritter about the chameleons. I love to see forgotten kit resurfacing. Still looking for JRT AD1 or Mioro.
