Was good to meet you Sunday Edward, and yes the 686 certainly held its own in my main system (never heard it in the playroom system). To me it was very much a case of different as opposed to better (Nord Vs 686) and I could live with either. The Nords for me had more bass heft and were a cleaner sound, whilst the 686 had more snap and speed with a slighter warmer presentation. Thanks again John for your hospitality. Yes interesting observations you make on the 686 vs the Nords. Certainly more snap/speed as we discussed with Steve. But I thought your Nords had a warmer presentation. But perhaps I needed to have spent more time with your Nords. I see Jessica did not rate the 686 much. Loved your ML stats! I kept thinking how my CEO would react if I imposed that in our living space. What opamps have you got in them lurch? I have tried Hypex modules here three times now and whilst i love the tautness of the LF, the Mids and HF are just way better on a well oiled 686. In my system anyway. I have no idea what impact ML speakers have on the sound. |

I would say the MLs impact on the sound is very minimal having owned and experienced monkey coffins & full stats.

I'd accept It may have been advertised at the wrong price, but a little note at the top of the eBay ad to declare a typo would have been a simple way to demonstrate that you aren't actually trying to make an extra £600 due to boards being out of stock. However, £600 is a long way out for a miscalculation IMO. i think the price is too near the price he wants for the 686 (he's open to offers on that too). |

Just another little update:
After originally listing the 286 amp for £1300, relisting for £1900 when interest started, they are now at £1950 I believe.
Joe has now offered them to a mate of mine for £1400, after rejecting an offer of £1300. He has declined and bought a Purifi amp that was on eBay for £1100.

I don't really get all this pissing about with prices, it would put me off buying from him tbh. 😒 i guess folks are getting a bit desparate this time of year . he has a few amps not shifting and accepting offers . I want another pair of cool running class AB monoblocks soon so those 286 are of some interest . i am curious how they would sound with my bc c5i pre . certainly the arcam a85 is sounding good but there are a lot better amps . the F5 were good but they give off a fair bit of heat and in a loft listening room they didnt last long as made it even hotter |
