Good news Jammy, looking forward to your findings and how it compares to your NVA. Christmas will be on us before we know it.

Well some good news from Will at RADFORD REV, I should have my STA 25 for Christmas. Thats been a 5/6 month waiting list so anyone interested best get yer order in now.!!! Yep the reason for that is because they're fucking excellent. I bet he could double the price and still be backed up for six months. I remember once spending a whole day listening to all sorts of amps, and some were very good, can't recall them all but things like the Avondale Voyagers and lovingly restored Leak Stereo 20s. And then last thing this old Radford STA15 went in. I knew they had a bit of a rep but I really was expecting typical old valve amp, charming, warm and a bit soggy but my god it was so good it made every previous amp I'd heard that day sound broken. Not in detail, soundstage, or any of that, just the way the sound hits your ears it sound right. Something to do with the harmonics sounding super-clean I think. Something in your brain just goes 'Ah Yes!' and relaxes. I don't know how to describe it in words but you'll know what I'm on about when you get it. I think you will be liking it Jammy.

'Course jammy will be loving it and it should hold value well too! Before the Radford preamp comes out, I'd probably suggest a Croft 25R at least, as it's less coloured than an ARC (any of 'em) and a doddle to service with no bullshit! An here's plonker here flogging his STA25/SC22 in very good order for £120 back in the day - we didn't know then

Duh, Original GEC KT66 valves in it, they were worth more than that on their own. God know what a TL10 is worth now, you need 2 for stereo but I bet a grand per monobloc is not far off.

RADFORD STA 25.
It's totally out-dated today jammy really - an effin' Naim is better and that's not really saying much! (DSJR)
GOSH...SORRY DAVE, BUT I DONT THINK I CAN TAKE ANYTHING YOU SAY SERIOUSLY FROM NOW ON. You've obviously been sniffing Docs Bison Glue real hard this while back.

Avondale voyagers are good, i should know i built four of them. Improved though by removing the output inductor & resistor, zobel network and input cap. Then turn the quasi complimentary output stage to fully complementary (which is fairly easy to do) and you have an even better amp. Hope your amp brings a smile to your face when it arrives Jammy.

So be it jammy, but that's what I found with mine - I replaced it with a Naim 12s/CB160, but wasn't awash with nostalgia back then.
Each to your own, but it's a hell of a lot of money on remanufactured nostalgia when you've got some pretty good sounding amps already, even if they do come in black perspex boxes and you hate the man who made them...

With a 6 month waiting list for a new one, I reckon Jammy could probably get all his money back if it didn’t hit the spot. Somehow, I have a feeling that it will be everything he hoped for. He’s heard an original and the remakes are a labour of love.

It isn't a hell of a lot of money in the context of high-end hi-fi. In comparison to what you can pay for a very mediocre amp they are practically giving them away. Is it not possible that yours was held back by the vintage pre-amp? I've never heard one with the original pre-amp but pre-amps were not much cop in those days. Stu, I'm a big fan of Avondale, and not because Les always buys me a drink. Heard the Voyagers several times and could happily live with them. But the Radfords go beyond that IMO.

I'm sure mine was held back by the preamp as many amps were back then and the power amp had supply caps that were beginning to leak as well. I'm cross that nobody wanted to service them in the late 70's, especially our well skilled service dept who laughed at me (nothing new there then!). Best I leave it. Jammy can well afford the amp, will love it for all the right reasons and its rarity and cachet will guarantee a fine resale value for decades to come no doubt. Miserable sods like me are irrelevant in this case. My pal HiFi Dave has a couple of unrestored examples on his shelves, but the one I always want to hear is his DC300A (Mark 1.5 - satin front and clipping lights), which is neither mint now especially 'desirable.' This latter is the amp that got me started, so each to our own

I didn't ask, what preamp do you expect to be using with it? I suspect the likes of a Croft would drive you barmy, although they can be got to special order in single volume control versions and I've seen a specially made front panel too, so it's not a bodge as presented...

I’m not very patient, so would likely have bought something else in the first place though. I’m sure it will be worth waiting for.

If you've paid owt upfront I'd be banging on at him unless he clearly stated up front that the amps are batch built and you have to wait for a batch to go through.
That's specifically why i take nothing upfront on a Paradise build, then I can build them at my leisure with no pressure.

Thanks Westie, I think it's my longest lived hifi component, having gone through versions 1, 2, this is V3. It is very fine indeed Some interesting stuff below .....The truth about Passives is interesting. www.rothwellaudioproducts.co.uk/html/indus_se.html

That Radford will be worth the wait, lovely bits of kit and sound fantastic. A passive should match it brilliantly. You're a lucky chap... What speakers are you (going to be) using it with?

Thanks pbg.....Will be using Falcon acoustic LS3/5A's I think I'd want bigger boxes with those Radfords but speakers are all about matching the room. You'll certainly get the best out of them with the new amps.

I will shine a light on AA and ask Will if he wouldn't mind contributing, he has in the past posted on other forums concerning Radford / Radford Revival.
It would be nice.

Hello! I have been summoned Happy to answer any questions! Nice one, Will. Other than the light Jammy has shone here, I know very little. I remember the originals but they were already garage finds by then. I remember some Woodside amps appearing probably late 80s but nothing TIL I heard about Jammys purchase. A bit of promotion is fine here. I realise you build in small quantities and there is a wait involved. I also remember you go to some lengths to make sure things like transformers meet the original spec and aren’t just off the shelf stuff. I'd like to know more and was even wondering if you’d be able to have a blog thread here ir anywhere for that mattter, where we can see your work and builds.
