I like the 'Technical Specification' - weight, dimensions, what speeds it goes round at.
All you need to know.

£15k with the arm. Ouch £600 you can have my Kenwood kd750 with AT 0C9 attached. That goes round and round

I love the KD750 but it's no use to me as when my rich mates come round they will just see some old 1970s tat (was it late 70s or early 80s?).
Doesn't have the cachet you see, except to anyone who really does know something about hi-fi.
Like the bloke who came round once with one of my mates, sees my system and tells me, no beating about the bush mind, 'Technics SL1200 is a DJ deck it's not proper hi-fi.'
So I put 'ZZ Top's First Album' on for him and after that he had nothing more to say on the subject.

You confirmed his thought?
Yes, this is tongue in cheek as I love my SL1200.

I bought the Kenwood long ago from Hugo/Shuggie (of Ammonite but long before he got into that) I’d got it to front a second system. At the time I had a Linn Sondek. What’s that expression? The KD750 blew the LP12 out the water. I was very happy to sell the Linn for what people thought it was worth.

I liked the original LP12 with the bouncy bass - before they started messing with it. That was what it's reputation was founded on, that bouncy bass. Everyone liked that. Then they had to start pissing about with it making it more 'accurate'. Chucked the baby out with the bathwater. Now it's just an expensive cult/fetish item.

This one is not for me. Don't like the aesthetics.

I am going to place a heavy wager on the fact its speed accuracy measurements are w@nk.
Why else wouldnt you shout it from the rooftops. Good looking TT though.

The tolerance on the tone arm fitting is a bit slack. I mean, +/- 20mm?
😉

That's to allow for the saddos who insist on buying Linn geometry tonearms, as it allows for a 212mm P to S distance.

Technics SP10R
These improvements achieved stable rotation of 0.015% wow and flutter or less, which is considered to be the measurement limit
It's not cheap, but it's what i'd buy!

So many people think the SL1200 was designed for DJing but it was actually designed to do the same job as the SP10.
Technics introduced it as an alternative for broadcast studios where the SP10 was either too expensive for the budget, or would be overkill.
That's why it has professional build quality and gets up to speed so quick. No such thing as DJing as we know it now when it first came out.
When club DJing became a thing they started using them for the same reason bank robbers used Mk2 Jags, best available tool for the job - but not specifically designed for that job.

Soundstage hifi have a complete ex-dem SL1000R - plinth, tonearm etc (except for headshell) , £9,999 - that's a big saving on new - bet they'd take £9k if it was offered - I would if I had it.

I'd have the lastest SP10R but I'm honestly really happy with my lot. I just can't seeing me buying another "statement" TT. My 1210 does everything that I ask and I'd quite happily put my 1210 up against any SP10, I think it would hold it's own.

My 1210 has only ever been away from home once in it's life and that was to South Uist when Paul Haynes (remember him), did the voltage regulation and rebuild for me.

I have no idea Dave. It is bloody heavy. The plinth is made of some kind of resin mixture.. but I’d only be guessing as to what makes it so heavy. The engineering that went into these things is quite astonishing.

More than happy with my Bardo, when it has the OL Conqueror 3C but more so now its sporting a 12" Enterprise Mk4. I'm looking forward to schlepping it up country for the proposed meet up, will be intersting putting it up against some Techies.

I must admit, I did see if I could scrape the funds together. Just had a look, the Bardo sports decent figures of Wow & Flutter 0.07% linear, 0.035% weighted and rumble of 64 dB (test record DIN 45544); -68 dB That's not bad at all.

Don't forget Lurch, it's not from the 'golden era', and there's lots of shister's (forgive my spelling) about selling these modern tt's for huge sums of money. Oh, it does measure well so you maybe ok.
