I have two left feet when it comes to building stuff, so I've bought a 686 built by Joe Henry. Dual Mono and 30kg!

2 x 500VA toroids? I thought I went big with 2 x 400VA.
I will be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Blimly Oli, you expect me to keep up with the amount of changes to your system
Good grief man, I have trouble keeping up with my own test gear acquisitions let alone your kit updates!
So are use using a FET based full bridge or was I just looking at a twin diode package in Ian's amp
Ok just seen the On devices, diodes,.

No Fet based bridge here. π Anyway, let's stay on course: ijrussell when does it land?

No idea why btw. Feel free to share a few pics of it in its new home. We love system pics here.

Quite happy with the PSU section in mine as well. And Bigbird I'd imagine. π I dont like mine β¦. Itβs too good π This one looks a fab build. Very tidy. Is it the one that was linked a few weeks back ? As Oli said they do take a while to fully open up. I left mine on 10hrs a day for a few weeks solid . At first the differences between it and my Croft monos were very subtle . Just a touch of transparency really. A few hundred hours down the line the differences were much more obvious.

Welcome ijrussell to this forum, I see you are automatically a member of the 'in crowd' using something called a Neurochrome, but by all accounts you are going to like your new purchase. To be honest though I can hardly wait for another review on this amplifier I must get a listen to one, but until then when in the uk I'll have to make do with my brothers Humboldt. Your new purchase does look bloody well built though, and by all accounts this Henry chap does know his onions.

The nearly 3 week report: I'm still liking it a lot. I haven't felt the urge to put any of my other amps in, so it's looking like I've found a keeper.

I've had this now for almost 6 months and it's going to take something unbelievably good for me to even consider replacing it. Great stuff, I've only got maybe 50 hours on my upgraded PSU/cabling 686. It does seem to get better with every listen as others have remarked. I don't have quite the amount of material in my build so hopefully it won't take quite as long as some, either way it's sounding glorious anyway. Good man for the update, always interested to hear that things are still good!

I'm guessing this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134028197555?hash=item1f34b3feb3:g:dVUAAOSwBkZiD3nYis identical to yours? (I'll have to cross-check....) I'm looking at getting it. My new speakers run at 85db inefficient and are recommended amps of 150 watt per. Up to now, my amps/speakers have been Pass F3 level, so I'm learning high-watt as I go. This seems to fit my needs. Your comments definitely help! Off to make sure the eBay one matches yours.....
oh, speakers are
