No1, vol pots don't need level displays, it's either loud enough or not. The input needs an indicator though.

For me, it would benefit to know if the volume has been inadvertantly turned way up before I hit 'play'! But then again, I have an electronic volume pot where a physical mark would be nearly useless.

Oli suggestion, fit the Tx's inside a sheilded box, space in that case to do that. There is no need to. We have measured the field and it's only extends a few mm from the transformers. It doesn't get anywhere near the signal. If it did, they'd be potted and inside an iron cover π

Thats why we use the smallest phyisical size tranformers we could find, whilst only running them at a low % of their capable rating. Nothing in this preamp (or the Avalon phonostage) was done by accident.
