Just ordered the GT Sonic VGT-1860QTD. It looks the same as the one used in the Velvet Vortex....

I'd be interested how you find this, my worry with sonic cleaners, is having to leave vinyl to dry naturally

I have two options. 1. Run a fan powered by USB to dry the records quicker. I just need to make a bracket. 2. Use my RcM vacuum.

My bath arrived last week and the unit with the motor and arm arrived today (was expecting it to be plastic but its very heavy and all metal so impressed so far). Over the weekend I will be setting it up and seeing if it works as it should.

I'll be interested in how you get on. As posted elsewhere, my motor has turned up, just waiting on the bath now.

GT Sonic VGT-1860QTD 6 litre bath, with a 300W heater GT Sonic VC-02 motor unit. Basically, this one here but it worked out cheaper buying it from the Czech republic, which turns out to be Germany. Total cost about €230

15 minutes cleaning cycle, and there is a marked reduction in pops and clicks. It is not perfect, but so much better. I will pop it on with another record for a 20 minute clean.
Downside - it is very noisy.

It’s upstairs, in the spare room. The door is shut. I can hear it. Okki Nokki vacuum is noisy, but that does not run for 20 minutes.
If the cleaning performance is better, then happy days.

The cleaner works well. If you remember my Houdini files, there were pops and clicks on the Dire Strairs tracks. Totally gone after a 20 minute wash.
Now I just need to find a really good solution for it.

I have just ordered a spare motor for my record cleaner. The current one is a 10RPM motor, which I think is a bit fast. The spare is a 2.5RPM motor. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.
I have cleaned about 50 records now, so I have just filtered the cleaning solution, and it is interesting to see how much dirt was left in the filetr. Definitely a good investment in my opinion.

Big fail I set the temp to 30 degrees (wanted to start low) and it reaches this no problem. Turn on the ultrasound and the temp starts to go up and up and up........ Turned everything off, let the temp dip and just tried again - nope, temp goes up and up. Will send it back then

Hi I make the Velvet Vortex andI know there are quite a few users of on this forum. There seems to be a few questions on here soI thought it might be worth answering some of them. 1. The bath needs to be 6L and 35 kHz or 40 kHz. I saw someone mention 60 kHz, I would not recommend this it is too aggressive. 2. The warmth of the water does go up as you clean records it is because as the ultrasonic wave passes through the water it agitates it and causes it to rise in temperature. so if you start at 30 degrees by the time you've cleaned 7 to 10 records in a row it will likely be around 40 degrees. Heat is a by product of the process so the fluid does go up in temperature as you clean. 3. If you want to source your own bath from Amazon or any other online retail outlet that is fine you can still buy just the Velvet Vortex machine on my website and fit it to your own bath. 4. I offer a 5 year guarantee on the Velvet Vortex machine and will always be here for support. It's made by me a HIFI entusiast in the UK on my CNC machine. I'll always be easy to contact if you need support. Not something that can be said about everything available on the internet. 5. Air drying is fine if the fluid mix you are using is made with that end in mind. The Velvet Vortex comes with full instructions and the recipe for the fluids to help with air drying. I've never had any problems air drying and neither have the users of the VV that I'm aware of. Hope that has helped to answer a few of the questions posted as part of this thread. Cheers

Cheers Hi Tim, This looks like a tidy bit of kit. I have set up some space in the trade area for you. Just let me know what you need in there if you can't do it yourself. Oliver

I have just replaced the SMPS with an adjustable one I have lying around. Turned down to 3V, I am now at roughly 2.25rpm. I am getting closer to a nice slow motor. When the 2.5 rpm motor turn up, I reckon it will be good enough. Ideally, you need one of the work drive motors similar to the ones Tim uses on the VV, but my GT Sonic housing won't accommodate it.

Yes, the VV is a nicely finished product, but roughly twice the price of my machine.

Agreed. But I need something to fiddle with. Whils waiting for the motor to turn up, I started to strip the brake calipers on my car to fit stainless pistons.
When the motor turns up, it will be a 10 minute job to fit. Then the job will be complete, for now.
