u know something. this month we have lived like hermits. living like this we save 1000 quid a week. that's how much we'll save this month when we get paid. now if we live a hermit lifestyle for the next 11 years that means we'll have 600 000 quid in the bank lol. means we'll be millionairs with the house value lol. but we're not gonna live like hermits and we want a villa in southern spain so that'll be at least 200 k.
saved 14k in the last 4 months lol..nothing we need so it all towards our sons new moped and moped car...21k gone there the end of april

You never considered Cyprus property? It will appreciate faster than Spain IMO. Maybe a but hot in Jul/Aug but it’s a great lifestyle.

Westie, do you really want mrhucker living that close, whizzing round the Isle in his Camero? Only joking Rudi, but Spain would not be my first choice either.

The ride, or fright, of your life. Alternatively, a lift on his motor bike could be interesting.

Smart move. I’m still hoping Brexit fallls apart. Or even Scottish independence. I’d be buying a place across the border and claiming Scottish citizenship.

It's parliament who get to vote on the deal (if there is one) not us. And if they don't like the deal and vote it down then all it means is we exit the EU on March 29th with no deal. Either way we leave the EU on that date.

Aye we cant give the people another vote on brexit ffs we've had one and the majority decided to leave. Not very democratic to have another in the hope of reversing the outcome...!!!
Deal or no deal fuk em.

Time will tell, but the politicians will do what’s right for them as individuals and for their party factions, rather than what is ethical or in Britain’s best interest. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Britain was still in the EU beyond March, whether that be due to pending referendum, extension or political upheaval and election.

Shame there's no open season on politicians, I'd enjoy sniping a few. And I'd be good at it, being a qualified marksman.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Britain was still in the EU beyond March, whether that be due to pending referendum, extension or political upheaval and election. At the present time there is no way that can happen, Article 50 makes no provision for an extension. You leave 2 years after you gave notice you were leaving and that's it. The only way we will stay in is if we revoke our notice to leave between now and March 29th. There's no provision for that either but allegedly it is legally possible and if we did the EU would breathe a huge sigh of relief and wouldn't oppose it. Of course doing that would mean ignoring the result of the referendum - which would also be legal since the ref was not legally binding. There's no precedent for a UK government ignoring a referendum though since to do so would be blatantly anti-democratic. As far as British subjects living on the continent goes I doubt much will change so it isn't anything to worry about. There were a couple of million British living in Europe prior to Maastricht and Lisbon and the freedom of movement legislation (my uncle amongst them) and I don't recall there being any issues. You might have to pay for healthcare or return to the UK if you want free treatment but that's about it.

One issue I foresee relates to a budget decision when Osborne was chancellor. He chose to freeze state pensions paid to U.K. nationals living outside the EU. That didn’t involve nearly as many ex pats as the are living in the EU, What will happen to the pensions of those ex pats living inside the EU when we aren’t part of it? I reckon their pensions will be frozen too, which could be a sizeable political issue come an election.
Lots of fallout we won’t see until it hits us. If it hits us. A week is a long time in politics and we have plenty of them between now and March. Brexit AND a Corbyn government are worst case scenario AFAIC.

But healthcare for brits living in spain is a huge problem as most are pensioners and on medication. as it has been for years the spanish government pay for it and the uk pays em back
imagine living abroad having no healthcare and then get say a stroke..you'll be ruined...my mum has gone back the blighty after 15 years in spain for that reason.

It’s likely to be 3 months, as that’s the current rule without residency, Some countries like Cyprus don’t give a monkeys when you come and go but you’re on your own if you get sick and you won’t get any form of help if you run out of cash. If Britain had been like that towards anyone come here, we wouldn’t have had the Brexit referendum outcome IMO.

You can always pay for private medical insurance.
Even if they did introduce a 3 month rule which I doubt they are unlikely to enforce it. Plus a few countries already offer EU citizenship for cash or if you invest in property there. Malta for example. Although the EU are trying to stop it.

You’ll be wiping yer arsed on bank notes by the time you retire. State Pension in Sweden sounds incredible. The Uk should have a look at he welfare provision there. We’ve had to raise the retirement age to pay subsistence pension.

and ofc the swedes complain. another thing is you both get a good pension here...not like the uk if you're still together.. i know pensioners here that have 2 cars and 2 houses and still live good. you have to have paid in for the full 50 years though to get a good pension.
we'll live good just on maries pension..she earns 60k a year so her state pension will be awesome.
1000 quid a week between us will go far in spain i rekon lol
