I’ll stick some pictures up as and when they’re needed but nothing much has happened as yet.... I’m going for a two box build to get the transformer away from the PCB but mainly as I wanted to keep the main box width down so it sat on my shelf better. I’m building it in Olive wood so it matches my preamp as below:  Transformer is on order from Tiger Toroids. Majority of components would be on order from Farnell if it would accept the PayPal payment - message out to their sales team on that one..... Will get round to ordering the 2 valves from Watford ASAP, I have a 12ax7 I can try already..... That just leaves the two caps C7 and C8 I think and at the moment I’m tossing and turning between the Vishays Oli uses, Jantzen Silver Z-Caps and Mundorf Mcap Supreme. I think that’s it for now so comments welcome...... |

I used Mundorf EVOs silver gold oil in mine, sounds very sweet and still more to come I think. Also some Mlytic Ags for power duties but these had to be mounted off board. Don't know how these sound compared to the BOM caps but I am very happy with the results. Recently tried a 6N2P in mine instead of the ECC83, these are very cheap on Ebay (£6) and sounds really good.  |

Oh I can’t take credit for the woodwork although if I put my mind to it I probably could. My woodworking is probably as rusty as my electronics so resurrecting one of those was sufficient. Ant at BTE is making the case for me.

Gorgeous wood. Make sure you have some ventilation. What are you using for top and bottom? It’s 3mm plate for the bottom and will be drilled once I’ve positioned the board etc. Top is acrylic and at the moment is having 3 sets of front to rear pair of 3mm holes if that makes sense. Left, right and centre pairs of holes front to back might be a better description..... |

Made a start....  Sorry, only just noticed the pic of the PCB, due to my attention being drawn to the wood! Those Green LEDs could do with being yellow or red. I thought i had changed that in the BOM? I will double check |

Funny you should mention that as I just put the part number into farnell and took what came up. It wasn’t until I saw another board today that I wondered about whether I had the correct value.....

My attention will be shifting from developing the Bigbottle over the next few weeks as I have other projects I want to play with, so advancements are unlikely, unless Alan or the DIY community come up with something... Oh!, I have bought an Ultra low noise replacement for the 7805, just to see if it does anything but it is a cheap Chinese one. It worked wondered In the Weilang preamp, so thought it might hold some benefit here. I'll share a link, but if I'm honest, I wish I'd gone for something a bit more elaborate looking.....and costing about £30, as I know if this does do anything, I'll be spending on a posh one. |

That's a lovely piece of Olivewood that the case is made from. One of my favourite light coloured timbers.

It's the forward voltage that is an issue apparently. Everything will be ok with green but the valves will be biased a little high I cant recall exactly what firebottle said?? I'm sure he'll chip in. |

Yeah that's fine and I can knock it back a bit with a yellow or even red but even for yellow LEDs there are different current ratings so I just wanted to make sure my next purchase is correct. I didn't want to go for 20mA and then for Alan to say, nope 10mA is what you want lol
