Daren't risk it without a demo unfortunately. Good effort though. Ta I wanted it big time till I read the specs

If you buy it on line you've got 14 days to return it.
Your speakers will be quite low impedance but I agree the specs on it are not great. Oh well back to the drawing board.

Some reviews say the Yami is warm sounding. How does that relate to your experience ? Cos it looks the dogs loike but I like a bit of edge to the music.

Yamaha house sound is slightly laid back that's true. But then you said you weren't keen on the Denon because you heard one that sounded a bit coarse.
I think your speakers will compensate for that anyway, they are not at all laid back so you should get a good balance there. Of course the character of your cartridge and phono stage will also factor in too...sometimes you just have to take a punt. I really don't think it would be a problem.

I know it's hard to describe in a few words. I need plenty of attack. Ther course thing.... my cyrus is on the lean side but its smooth not course. If you ever did any photography it's like a higher speed film for low light where its grainy. I know , it sounds bollocks but I know what I mean hah.

My daughters 300 quid Denon is more what I'm looking for but with more power. I might have a look at their higher up ones. Any views ?

No, not familiar with their current stuff at all. Yer man on here has the flagship one and he rates it but I think that's two grand.

That Denon is tempting. Been down Kells treetops before..... never again. The plinius would need some views from the more experienced , ie you bunch of reprobates.

OK...I'll buck the trend and say that unless you only want to spend a few hundred, I wouldn't pay strong money from anything too vintage (unless "top end vintage") as unless already serviced, just about all will either need or benefit from one. Transistor output stages in the '70's for example, simply weren't up to the reliability or longevity of modern counterparts and anything approaching 40 to 50 years old will almost certainly have drifted miles off value and things like electrolytic caps would need looking at. You can be lucky and find a one careful owner, low miles example, or one that's never been run too long or too hot but at that age, I'd put half the budget towards a service. New you get better bang for your buck imho as it's pretty hard to find a really bad or really unreliable class A/B amp these days.
The best value I think is in the 5 to 10 yr old category. Loads to choose from at a grand or less.

Collection only from Cardiff. Shame, it looks a good'un. It would be interesting to hear your conversation with the police officer, explaining why it was an essential journey. If he or she's an audiophile you're in luck, otherwise probably not. Also, unlike many others, I don't rate the Pioneer A400 - I bought one on the rep and although it sounded impressive first off, tonally it's spot-on and nicely open, but quite quickly it just sounded dynamically drab and boring to me. Maybe it needed a refurb.

The big advantage of the Denon is it's NEW.

Ta Should be ok, 3 inputs for your 2 phonostages plus it even has a phono input as well which you could try. On the digital side, 2 optical, 1 coax and a usb, all you could possibly need.

Never heard the A400...only know it by rep, which generally has been more positive than negative.

Mike's bigger brother.
You have rights of return/refund, too, with buying new online, in case you aren't keen on it.

I won't deny that's a plus. Im a bit tired of buying used anyway. I think my last new amp was my old NAP170 in about 1935. 🙄
