A grand (ish) amp required. You all know I'd rather spend on records than on gear . My old Cyrus is getting tired. Today the front panel came loose so it's time to replace it. I want something 70wpc minimum and I want some sort of digital input for the telly etc. For the first time since the 70's I'm willing to try a Jap amp id there's any in contention. I need some pizzazz in the sound. I hate laid back audio . Plenty of dynamics and transients in it. I don't need 600 inputs or anything mind boggling. Two phono amps and a telly will go through it. Ready .......steady.....
GO ! 🙂👍 . Bear in mind it'll probably be bought blind. No audition in the current climate.

New or used?
Digital input requirement limits your choices a bit on the s/h side.

Om om eith new ir used. I'll forego the digi for the right amp. Just looked at the Rega Elex-R. Most reviews say it's a bit on the Lean side. No good for my vinyl.

What speakers do you have? Easy to drive?
You needn't spend anywhere near a grand imo, especially used. You like the Cyrus sound? That's usually quite lean, or at least bass light. Very enjoyable, though, I've had Cyrus gear and been very impressed.
If so, why not another Cyrus? Anything else is a bit of a gamble if you can't get a demo.

Lots of people on PinkFish Media forum like the JVC1010TN or whatever it's called, I'm sure that has a digital input. Not so easy to find mind you.
Why not buy the amp then just add a cheap optical dac like the one I have from eBay for under a tenner. It's about the size of a cigarette packet and will then let you buy any amp you like.

B&W CM7's The teflon driver needs 70 wpc . Another Cyrus world be ok but a bit more bass wouldn't go amiss.

Suffice to say, I'd try one if I needed an integrated amp www.ebay.de/itm/184090192818

One of those JVC's sold recently on PFM and in great condition.

Gotta be careful. Some people describe refined as laid back and it's not totally the same thing. Not saying it's wrong, just pointing that out

Ok . No digital needed then. I tried Creek a few years ago and found them a little polite for my tastes. Anyone tried Cambridge amps ? The CX81 looks good. Made in fricken China though. I'm not friends with the chinks at the moment.

I'm looking around for a jvc in mint nick. My daughter has a Denon and it's ok but a bit course /grainy sounding.

Well , to be honest a newer one with a guarantee of some sort as appeals. I've bought about half a dozen used amps before and all have failed in a short period of time. Older ones especially have had dry solder joint problems.

Im not sure if 35wpc will be enough for the B@W's. Tried a naim 45 watter with them and it didn't wake them up I'm afraid. Bugger ...I read the details at 70w but that's into 4ohm

I never ran out of power with my speakers, they are about 86db/w but probably about 6 ohms.
