It feels like the thrill is slowly beginning to recede. It's hard to explain really. Plus, I'm starting to realise most of this Hi-Fi malarkey is plain bullshit.
Having to switch on a system and listen to tracks, feels like a hard chore these days.
More often I listen to my favourite tracks on spotify through my cheap superlux headphones. No nonsense, just happy listening!
How things can change, but that's life!

Digital has made everything sound the same. Sterile Shite , and all the same sterile shite. The only true audio worth being interested in is analogue. Vibrations made by vibrations. Digital audio has no depth , no history, no character , no soul. Record players are the only true audiophile tool. That's the truth. How long is a fucking computerised imitation of music going to enthrall anyone for ? In my case ...less than a day.

How can anyone ever get enthusiastic about reproducing a digital signal ? Fucking nonsense ! At least the reproduction of vinyl has some fucking class...alure... intrigue about it ! Listen to Engy ... if you're interested in the hi fidelity reproduction of music , go back to music ... not a bastard computer. Night xxxx

I lost interest in hifi at about the same age. I came back to it after about 8 years of not having a system at all. It might be something that comes back at some point. In my case, absence really did make the heart grow fonder.

Do not think I will ever loose interest. At least 5 times a week I have a listen to my system for an hour or two.
I am however not anal about what I listen to music on or from what source. The only radio station in my part of the world that plays the sort of tunes I like, without that cursed talk show moronic gibberish, is an AM station. Sometimes it is not good at all, in fact in audiophile terms it never is, the interference does not bother me at all, it is the music that counts.

Just toll with it Shane. Just don’t sell your system off, as you will come back to wanting some good tunes.

What you've probably lost interest in like me is listening to your hifi rather than the music which is probably why your only listening to Spotify. My advice would be to buy a more 'budget' system that just plays all of your music very well rather than making a small section sound fantstic. Belive me a well thought out system can be built for less than a grand that will keep you happy just sell it all and start to again the only thing I would keep if you really like how they sound is your speakers, work backwards from there.
I sold my entire Linn / Naim system keeping only my speakers and the agonising over how things sounded, how they sounded v money spent has now dissapeared.

I sold my entire Linn / Naim system keeping only my speakers and the agonising over how things sounded, how they sounded v money spent has now dissapeared. This is a great post. I was talking to Rob, who has been trialing new speakers recently. He concluded that the speakers he had enabled him to listen to everything and anything, whereas the speakers he was auditioning were dictating, as they only played certain types of music well. My advice is you can do one of two things. Either advance your system to a point where every time you hear it, it's a joy or take a break for a while. Don't sell your gear. You'll regret not having it if you want a listen at some point. Recently, I've felt very similar emotions about my system, which is odd because it's the best it ever been, but I think that's the issue. There isn't an obvious upgrade I can do so that aspect of the hobby, which I think I enjoyed the most, is over. Music wise, it's a different story. I'm downloading albums at an ungodly rate. 15 last night, LPs on the way and CDs in my ebay basket ready to be paid for.

Having to switch on a system and listen to tracks, feels like a hard chore these days. Blimey, and I thought I was lazy! Personally, I'm mostly playing vinyl records at the moment. I've got about a thousand of them; I've been going through my classical vinyl recently and found records I don't remember buying, let alone listening to. What I am done with is buying new 'stuff'. The way my system sounds now is the way I've always wanted a system to sound, so I'm not going to monkey around with it.

I lost interest in Hifi when my son was first born because I had other interests and priorities, but I’ve never lost interest in music.

I had the same system from 2001 to 2009. Box swapped loads before that and loads after. Not sure that I lost interest in hi-fi though, I still read the mags and bought the odd set of cables over that time. Just to keep my hand in.

Try doing some reviewing to put you off hi-fi for life
Almost all the new stuff arriving on the market is pretty much the same sounding now and to me has become almost tonally grey. Keep on hoping hearing something that sounds naff just to make a refreshing change.
The good part though is the relationship between me and my own system, which I enjoy simply listening to music as a pleasure rather than analysing and dissecting like I used to.
I think you should try to reconnect with the music Shane and completely forget about what it's being played through. Works for me

I must have got lazy, seem to prefer the convenience of digital music to that of vinyl. I do still listen to vinyl and enjoy it immensely but it is such a faff.

Box swappers are going to lose interest because they usually keep moving sideways within the same price bracket. If one was actually interested in the music rather than primarily the equipment one might be more contented. If you find a system that works for you stick to it for a few years at least. Tip - ignore most forum recommendations and flavour of the month brands / products.

True, although I'd say the problem is moving sideways in the same trough of mediocre tat. Done it myself. I wouldn't say price because these days price is not always a reliable indicator of quality.

Losing interest in hifi may be an age related thing. After 30-40 years it is probably a case of seen it and done it all. I had been thinking about improving my tt, but to be honest can't be arsed.

The way my system sounds now is the way I've always wanted a system to sound, so I'm not going to monkey around with it. This is one of my favourite things about owning a decent sized record collection that's been built up over some years finding records that you forgot you owned and rediscovering that music. I've got quite a large collection of dance music up in the loft from the late 80's that I hardly listen too last week whilst tidying up, up there I went through a box and found 'Smokebelch' a double 12" by Andy Weatherall's Sabres of Paradise and it's fantastic music. I do have a Tidal subscription and a reasonable sounding digital playback but sometimes theres just too much choice would I have found that 12" by chance probably not. Though I'm not done with buying records at all and still really enjoy doing so. (Apart from scratched and damaged MFSL, One Steps...see my recent and very interseting thread on this very subject)

I lost interest a while back as I was more into restoring my 1957 Ford Pop, three years on I'm getting close to finishing it although old cars are never done. I have been driving it in between jobs so had some good times with it. On the hifi front I have made some changes in that time but none as significant as lately, one big change was selling my PX25 monoblocks and being happy with a Sony receiver that cost me £69. Maybe because my interest was less. Then I found Lii audio speaker drivers and my interest picked up. So now have crystal 10 in tqwt and thought how wonderful they sound. But little did I know how much better they would sound with my latest purchase. I had the urge for another valve amp that turned into a search for a first watt SIT, decided against valves again, that search was fruitless and I came across Bakoon amps and bingo, the crystal 10 are now way beyond anything I've heard ever. The only thing limiting my listening is my room is down the garden and some days the weather has been too bad to bother. Anyone losing interest should take a break and most likely it will sound great again at some point.

I lost interest in my hifi when I had my previous speakers because I found myself not enjoying the system as much. Since getting my new speakers I am listening to it at ever opportunity.

Ooh Bakoon amps, I had forgotten about them. Look incredibly well made. Yes they are, buying new is eye wateringly expensive so I bought used. Best Buy ever. Only 15w but then some of the sets I've had have only been 4w but are not in the same league when used with efficient speakers. All the superlatives mean nothing, get to hear one.

I go through peaks and troughs. I still like to dabble and I'm happy to spend and loose a little money whilst experimenting. I only make big purchases when I really need to and then I'll usually do loads and loads of research to make sure I'm happy with what I'm buying, I'll usually keep that component forever.
