Yea get a cat, nothing like a cat for ripping your speaker grill covers to shreds. Exactly.

Biggest upgrade I had was getting a dog, although it wasn't free. Now and then he stands in front of the speaker so I tell him to move and he just gets out of the way of the music. Big step up... I bought another dog too but getting them to coordinate getting out of the way is a bit more troublesome. It seems to be one or the other, I seem to be lacking an element of synergy here or I'm just experiencing diminishing returns... Channel balance must be way off! Yeah it is, ones a Pyrenean Mountain dog and the other's a Whippet....

Well there it is. Every Yorkshireman could have told you that Whippets are the better choice for sound quality.

Get the old lug holes cleaned out. The trouble is you can then hear people laughing behind your back and your other half so it's a double edged sword that one.

Put your fingers behind the ears and protrude them. Changes the entire sound balance.

Another good one. For vinyl users . Put bowls of water on your radiators. It doesn't alter the sound directly but it does kill a lot of static. As many as you can accommodate. Get a bit of humidity into the room. Not to sauna levels obviously , idiots.

We do not have radiators in this semi tropical climate.

Since I bought an RCM I have no issues with static, even during the winter when the stove is on and the room does get a tad dry... Clearly not a cost free tip but it's a piece of kit I wouldn't be without now

When you open a record . Always blow into it to open it. When you put it away , blow into it again. Viola. .. no static ! If you accidently hawk a load of gozz into it though you'll have to clean up after yourself. So don't do it if you've got pleurisy. 😊

When you buy a new record slide a poly sleeve upside down over the record inside the paper sleeve before binning the paper sleeve.
No scuffs, no static.

If it's a plain sleeve it gets binned here and replaced with a mofi inner, any writing at all and it goes in at the side of the mofi....

Remove and bypass any speaker fuses as they ruin sound quality.

Called chassis damping, Wiki it, look it up on audio forums, and stop being so objectionable.

I always remove such wankery foo from anything that comes in for repair.... Worst I've seen was around 2 pounds of blu-tak stuck all over the innards of a CD player!

S That bloke is a complete twat. Someone on SH forum did try separating the power and signal cables with a positive result. The other suggestions are pure guesswork and not based on any degree of knowledge. BTW would you invalidate the warranty for probably ineffective changes. By all means try it on a cheap player from Ebay but not a new CXC.

The blu tak I removed made a globe about 8 inches in diameter! It was still a shite CD42 in a fancy box, with our without blu tak.

Tim de Paravicini had one of his EAR amps in for repair. Inside he found these 'marble looking' stones. He was pissed off, even showed a pic on Facebook.
