Trying to dodge somewhat inclement weather as to clearing up the mess the winds left in the rear garden this morning this afternoon a relaxing meal and watching Birds of prey at the local picture house

Today I took a massively bumpy flight out from Gatwick (thank you Ciara). but it was worth it for this view of the Matterhorn from our hotel bedroom

It's certainly a lovely view, looking like bad weather for the rest of the week so I got one in while the sun is out lol. Pretty windy in Gatwick this morning, while waiting 1 plane tried to land twice and then got diverted to Stansted , eek!

Today I are be mostly pondering a small problem. Missus brought home a bottle of CBD for her own problems and said I should try it for mine. so took a few drops. It did sweet FA for what I took it for, but it did have an unexpected bonus. As I was lying in bed ready for sleep last night, it suddenly hit me that my tinnitus was completely missing and for the first time in 3 years since my brain haemorrhage I had total silence which actually shocked me when I realised it. My joy was very short lived though as my wife's snoring was in full ultra high fidelity and I then had trouble getting to sleep listening to that racket
I have just taken a few more drops of CBD oil and keen to see if that was responsible for the tinnitus's disappearance - albeit only temporarily.
2 drops at 11.30 and an hour later no tinnutus. Need now to know how long it lasts for.
According to the wise ones on the interweb, CBD oil has no effect upon tinnitus or makes it worse. Of course, those scientific results were deduced from trials on lab rats and mice, little wonder then I have so little time for hard core objectivists in our hobby.

That sounds promising, good luck with it.

Really? I may try it myself. Suggests your nerve network is causing the tinnitus, which is very common.

We shall see. The baby 86 should be more than enough for my current speakers. They may lead to a build of a bit more of a beast later.
I shall have a good listen when they land, and sell the ones I like the least.

It is the fault of both of you that I have bought these. The ones I have bought look well built. I don’t need any more power for my current speakers. I am sure that they modulus 86 amps are good, but I need to see how they will fit in my system. It sounds nicely balanced at the moment. If these amps take it a step further, I will be happy.

Lol Sh#t. No pressure then Those amps are really well built. Proper job. I was gonna buy them to see how my not quite dual mono build compared to the proper monoblock build. However, I recieved a very kind offer of help to convert mine if required and also there is the possibility a mono pair will be here on Friday so I didn't need to pick them up. We are only a small forum but we've got some good folks watching in private 😊

If they work well, I may start to accumulate the parts for a mothership build, in a mono configuration. Something I can work on over time, and fit some decent quality parts, without going stupid. I have always fancied a monster amp that will drive anything.

Its awesome as is.

The first time on Saturday night it worked beautifully, then yesterday I took some at 11.30 which lasted until 5.30pm, but another dose at 7.00pm had no effect at all
Just taken a bigger dose and hoping that does the job today, otherwise it's is only a short term solution. Bugger!

I don't have enough experience with Boutique parts to chose the best.
However, your point on buying pre-populated makes perfect sense, as the component choice should be good, and installed at a good level of quality.

May be a reliever when it's at most intrusive? Anything is better than nothing

I was thinking about this, Everyone who has been to have a listen to the 686 has either bought one, or is planning on getting one when they can. Literally a 100% conversion rate. Valves, SS, Class D, it hasnt mattered one bit. The 686 has been a huge success in that regard

It contains a lot of Surface Mount bits and I certainly wouldn't fancy populating two pcbs lol

It was more a question of having a reasonable project, and taking my time to do it.
Costs would be more manageable this way as well, as two.populated boards are $1k, and then you have much less work to do.

From initial.studies, I would need two 686 PCBs, two 686 power PCBs and two soft start PCBs. That is already $760 and I have not finished reading what I need.

It's not a cheap amplifier by any stretch of the imagination. However, I'm yet to hear anything in my system that is better in any way, and that is whilst my 686 isnt optimally powered. My smps are not entirely independent of each other so if I were to make them so, there is an argument that suggests it would improve them If I were to put Toroids in there, again, that could push things further again according to other advice I've been given. I have the chance to see how the difference could sound on Friday, so I'll base my next steps on that.
