You can tell him next Sunday. He's out of here. I'm warning you all. Listening to Genesis is a banning offence. I've had a word with Bigman and he agrees. Listening to silly grass chewing Bill and Ben pantomime idiocy with a daffodil head on will not be tolerated.

You're banned for a week for listening to Genesis. ๐คจ๐ You might lose my vote Mr Engine if you make comments like this. I would agree however, anything after Duke is a possible banning offence, and don't forget we allow you to listen to The Fall.

Listening to silly grass chewing Bill and Ben pantomime idiocy with a daffodil head on will not be tolerated. I didn't notice this so haven't replied...
I'll listen to what I effin' well like (I know what I like too, but that's an earlier album and it ain't in my wardrobe ) and if I choose to share one of the few times a month I get to play music at home albeit on headphones I'll bloody well do it, so there!
Bill-n-Ben pantomime hats had gone with Mr Gabriel's leaving by Trick of the Tail.
As for post Duke - I've a good mind to post up 'I Can't Dance' but I won't this time
Do any of you feel the lyrics too? I've felt 'Many Too Many' too many times in my adult life...
In the meantime from last Sunday and onwards from the Pothead Pixie era -
'Did you get it ? Did you get it ? You're just another fish in the sea, yeah Did you get it ? Did you get it ? You gotta get it right and see what's left And you get it left when you see what's right When you get it, you won't forget it When you get it, you won't regret it When you get it you'll start to see Your just the same as me...
Now you know it's good to be back here in the world again Don't you know it's great to be in love with a girl again? Down here in the battlefield of time Don't get lost to reason or rhyme Humpty Dumpty and his forest of men Really ought to get it together again
Wouldn't you like to fly ? Wouldn't you like to know why ? You die,
You try To fly,
You're high,
You're low,
You know,
You grow,
You flow To laugh, the path, But you fall
You get it after all.............................'

Y'see, written down like that, without the accompanying music, it reads like a pile of pretentious shite. That's not the fault of Genesis; it goes for almost every set of lyrics divorced from the music. One of the few exceptions are the songs of the mighty Half Man Half Biscuit, written by Nigel Blackwell, where the words stand by themselves. Here, for example, are the words to 'Soft Verges', though there are hundreds of others:
'So I'm walking down the road And heading towards me Is somebody I know But not like a brother He's seen me, and we both realise That we're going to have to put into operation The tricky manoeuvre that is Acknowledgement without breaking stride So I keep my eyes fixed firmly on the ground 'Til I get within ten or so feet away With a nod of the head And a timely hello I can carry on walking Don't wanna get talking Rule number one โ carry on walking And anyway I don't know his name And if I were to guess I'd guess it all wrong And I'd be there for a long time "How's it going, where're you living Do you still see much of Steve? Are you married, are you working Do you still drink in The Swan?"
Inside back page, Radio Times "My Kind Of Day" with the actors and actresses... "I get up about six, and I have a cold shower Switch on "Today", Vitamin C Write some letters 'til quarter past eight When Olivia takes Oliver to school It's about an hour's drive To Shepperton from ours So I go through the scripts in the back of the car And if I get hungry I'll eat a Multigrain bar Weekends are good we can walk the South Downs as a family But of course what most people never realise Is that us poor actors are out of work For ninety percent of the time"
Yes of course I must have missed you At the Job Club yesterday Maybe you were signing on Or finding out about free school meals
Gary doesn't live here anymore Gary doesn't live here anymore Gary doesn't live here anymore Gary took a dive from the second floor'

Donald Fagen: The Nightfly
Bob Dylan: Highway 61 Revisted
Albinoni: The Complete Concertos op9, Adagio for Organ & String/ I Musici
It's about ten years since I last listened to The Nightfly. I was struck by how well-recorded it was, and enjoyed hearing it again, but with no great wish to listen to it again very soon. It's in remarkably good nick, considering how many times I played it when I first bought it in 1982.
